DONETSK, Ukraine -- Only one goal counted, and it belonged to Wayne Rooney. The England striker returned from a two-match suspension to head in the lone goal Tuesday and give his team a 1-0 win over Ukraine and a spot in the European Championship quarterfinals. The co-host Ukrainians, however, will leave the tournament knowing that things could have been different. Needing a win to advance, the Ukrainians thought they had equalized in the 62nd minute when Marko Devics looping shot appeared to cross the line before it was hooked clear by England defender John Terry. But the goal was not awarded by the referee or his extra assistant, who was half-standing on the field only a few meters from the post. "The goal that wasnt given really changed our plan because if it was given, I think the whole game could have looked another way," Ukraine captain Andriy Shevchenko said through an interpreter. "We tried to give Ukraine a gift but we werent able to do it." Although a draw still would have eliminated them, the equalizer would have given the team hope knowing that another goal would put Ukraine through to the quarterfinals. "I was sad because the ball was in the goal by one meter," Ukraine coach Oleg Blokhin said. The controversy will likely add to the pressure on UEFA President Michel Platini to reverse his opposition to goal-line technology. It was Rooney, however, who did manage to put his team on the scoreboard. England captain Steven Gerrard whipped a cross into the penalty area that glanced off two defenders before Ukraine goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov let it slip through his hands as he crouched to collect the ball. Rooney was primed at the far post and made it count. "I was always putting myself in goalscoring opportunities," Rooney said. "I couldve done better with a couple more but I got the goal and its three points." Rooney missed the first two Euro 2012 matches through suspension. He was sent off in the teams last qualifier in October, and received a three-match suspension that was eventually reduced to two. The goal was Rooneys first at a major tournament since scoring four at Euro 2004 as an 18-year-old rising star. He failed to find the net at both the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, while England failed to even qualify for Euro 2008. "There was a lot of pressure on Wayne," Gerrard said. "But he stood up and when we needed him he was there." With the victory, England won Group D and will next face Italy in Kyiv on Sunday. France also advanced, despite losing to Sweden 2-0 in the other group match. Ukraine, however, will have to watch the rest of the tournament as spectators, just like co-host Poland. At the 2010 World Cup, England midfielder Frank Lampard was denied a goal that would have levelled the match against Germany at 2-2. England ended up losing 4-1. "To be successful you need a bit of luck," Gerrard said. "Two years ago we were unlucky with Frank Lampard and we had to pack our bags." England is now unbeaten in five matches under Roy Hodgson, who took over the team last month following Fabio Capellos resignation in February. "Most people didnt think wed get out of the group," Hodgson said. "Weve won it on points instead of goal difference as well. This was an away game with a capital A. "There were (50,000) people in and only 4,000 brave England fans. When we needed a bit of luck, when the ball may have crossed the line, we got a bit of luck and went on to win the match." Ukraine had never won at the Donbass Arena on four previous occasions, and failed to seize on its dominance when it mattered most. With their fans dominating the crowd and on the bench at the start due to a left knee injury, the Ukrainians were in control from the outset, far more confident on the ball and containing England inside its own half. But early efforts were from distance, with Denys Garmash and Yaroslav Rakitskiy striking over, while England midfielder Scott Parker had to throw his body into the path of Devics low shot. They were getting closer, though, and looking more even menacing going forward with Oleh Gusev getting into the penalty area and sending in a shot that just creep over Joe Harts goal. Before Rooney scored, England came close to testing Pyatov when Ashley Young sent in a low cross that was easily dealt with in the 11th minute. As Ukraine attacked the England goal, Rooney was quiet in the first half of his first competitive match in more than a month until he sent a free header wide in the 28th from Youngs cross. "It was a while since he played a competitive match," Hodgson said of Rooney. "Every day helps him and helps us. The fact that he had 80 minutes today will give him confidence for the Italy game." ------ Lineups: England: Joe Hart, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Joleon Lescott, John Terry, Steven Gerrard, James Milner (Theo Walcott, 70), Scott Parker, Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney (Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 86), Danny Welbeck (Andy Carroll, 82). Cabrera-Bello, whose lone tour title was at the 2009 Austrian Golf Open, birdied nine of his first 11 holes before cooling off. He parred the final seven holes. Marcel Siem and Scott Jamieson share second place at minus-seven. Siem was in the first group off the first tee on the Majlis course at Emirates Golf Club on Thursday. He dropped his approach shot into the water on the 18th and that led to a closing bogey. World Nos. 2 and 4, Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer, both shot six-under 66 and headline a group of seven players that are tied for fourth place. Cabrera-Bello started on the back nine Thursday and got off to a quick start with birdies on the 10th and 11th. He again converted back-to-back birdie efforts from the 13th to move four-under through five holes. The 27-year-old Spaniard continued his fine play with a birdie on the 16th. He followed that with birdies on 17 and 18 to grab a piece of the lead at minus- seven. After Siem moved ahead with a birdie on No. 17, Cabrera-Bello converted a birdie chance on the first to again move into a tie atop the leaderboard. Cabrera-Bello made it five in a row as he birdied the second. That gave him the outright lead at minus-nine. Surely, he had thoughts of carding the first 59 in European Tour history at that point. "Just for a second after the birdie on No. 2, I tried to do the math on what I needed for 59. Then I told myself to stop being foolish and dont be too greedy," Cabrera-Bello admitted. "Nothing wrong happened -- there were some tough holes to come and I didnt drop a stroke." Not only did he not drop a shot, bbut Cabrera-Bello parred his final seven holes.dddddddddddd. "Its a really, really good score, but in itself it means nothing. If you want to stay grounded, you think of how many leaders of the first round win the tournament," said Cabrera-Bello. "I know I have to play really, really good just to have a chance." Siem flew up the leaderboard with five birdies in the first 10 holes, including a chip-in birdie on the sixth. He settled in with four pars in a row from the 11th. The German poured in three straight birdies from the 15th to soar into the lead at minus-eight. He had a chance to end at nine-under, but his approach splashed into the pond short, right of the green at the 18th. That led to a closing bogey. "I hit it pretty solid today. I thought it was one of my best rounds of golf ever," Siem stated. "I didnt make any stupid mistakes. I had a lot of good chances and made the putts too." Jamieson had a bogey-free round with just two birdies on his opening nine. Around the turn, he birdied the 11th, then jumped to minus-five with an eagle on the par-five 13th. The 28-year-old Jamieson birdied 15 and 18 to join Siem at minus-seven. McIlroy and Kaymer were joined in fourth place by Thomas Bjorn, Richard Sterne, Nicolas Colsaerts, Gregory Bourdy and Romain Wattel. Mark OMeara, the 2004 winner, is tied for 20th at minus-three. Defending champion Alvaro Quiros opened with a two-under 70. Fred Couples, the 1995 champ, is among a large group of players tied with Quiros. NOTES: McIlroy, Kaymer and Wattel were the only players in the top 10 that were in the afternoon wave...Stephen Gallacher had a hole-in-one on the par- three 15th, and is tied for 20th with OMeara and world No. 3 Lee Westwood. FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Wholesale Jerseys. -- The latest step forward for Toronto FC could have come at a significant cost. Luis Silva scored in the eighth minute to push Toronto to a second consecutive victory with a 1-0 win at New England on Saturday night, but influential striker Danny Koevermans departed in the first half with an apparent left knee injury. Koevermans suffered the injury as he chased after a ball on the right side of the penalty area and took a challenge from A.J. Soares in the 37th minute. The prolific Dutch striker immediately clutched his left knee as he fell to the ground and soon made his way off the field on a stretcher. TFC did not issue an update on Koevermans condition after the match, but he left Gillette Stadium on crutches with his left leg immobilized. "I fear the worst for Danny," TFC coach Paul Mariner said. "Ive got my fingers crossed, but I spoke to the doctor from New England, who I have the highest regard for, and it doesnt sound too good." Koevermans, who has nine goals this season, provided yet another reminder of the hole he would leave up front should he miss extended time by playing a crucial role in the only goal of the match. TFC exploited the uncertainty in the New England defence caused when centre back Stephen McCarthy left the field with concussion-like symptoms in the sixth minute after a clash of heads with Toronto striker Ryan Johnson. TFC midfielder Reggie Lambe sliced into the middle of the field and supplied Silva in space on the edge of the penalty area. Silva played a quick one-two with Koevermans before slotting home his second goal in as many games. "I gave it to him, kept my run going and got a nice little pass back," Silva said. "I took a touch and just put it away from the keeper." From that point on, Toronto spent most of its time soaking up pressure and trying to hit the Revolution on the counter. Johnson and Silva squandered second-half opportunities in a bid to punish the Revolution for committing numbers into the attack, but TFC dedicated most of its efforts to keeping a tight shape and preventing the Revolution from claiming an equalizer. Toronto goalkeeper Milos Kocic ensured he and his resolute teammates would leave Gillette Stadium with all three points by denying Benny Feilhaber at the near post in the 64th minute and pushing away a Jerry Bengtson header six minutes before the end. "New England were pressing and pressing us," Mariner said. "They had some chances. The keeper made a couple of great saves for us. But, having said that, we could have had more goals on the break." LOS ANGELES -- Eager to make a nice impression with his new team, Chris Johnson grounded into a double play with the bases loaded early in Monday nights game. Michael Turner Jersey. The next time up, he did a lot better. Johnson hit a grand slam in his Diamondbacks debut, helping Arizona beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-2. "I just want to try to contribute somehow. I know Im not going to hit a grand slam every night, so if I can just do the little things -- play some defence, run the bases, get some hits, thats what Im here for," he said. Johnson, acquired Sunday in a trade with Houston, started at third base. He gave the D-backs a 7-0 lead in the fifth inning with his second career slam. Johnson became the first player in the Diamondbacks 15-year history to hit a grand slam in his first game with the club. Johnson connected off Aaron Harang after a two-out intentional walk to lefty-swinging Miguel Montero. At that point, Montero was 8 for 15 lifetime against Harang. "I had a chance earlier in the game to do something and drive some runs in, and I kind of let the guys down. So I wanted to make up for that," Johnson said. "Its not that I was trying to hit a home run, but anytime a guy gets walked in front of you on purpose, you want to go up there and get a big hit. Johnson left an Astros squad that had just broken a franchise record with their 12th straight loss and joined an Arizona team in playoff contention. "One of the guys on the bench said: Anybody know what the Giants did tonight? And that kind of shocked me, because Im not really used to that," Johnson said. "But it was intense out there, especially playing these guys. This team doesnt want to lose to those guys over there, so it was fun tonight. It seemed like opening day for me. My nerves were running wild tonight, but I settled down a little bit after about the fourth inning," he said. Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run shot in the first for Arizona. Trevor Cahill (9-9) allowed a run and six hits over six innings with four strikeouts and three walks. The right-hander, acquired from Oakland in a multiplayer trade last December, is 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA in four career starts against the Dodgers. Harang (7-6) gave up a season-high seven runs over five innings, along with nine hits and three walks. The 35-year-old right-hander is 1-7 with a 3.26 ERA in his last 12 starts against the Diamondbacks since beating them in consecutive starts with Cincinnati back in August 2003. During that stretch, they have homered off him 10 times. The Dodgers, who concluded their 7-3 road trip with a three-game sweep at San Francisco that pulled them into a tie for the NL West lead, were coming off their first back-to-back shutouts of the season. But Harang found himself trailing 3-0 after just eight pitches, as Goldschmidt deposited his 1-0 offering behind the centre-field fence for his 14th homer after singles by Gerardo Parra and Aaron Hill. "The fact that two pitches were what changed the game was frustrating," Harang said. "Its tough to get two outs and give up a slam." Cahill, who allowed first-inning runs in each of his previous seven outings, gave up a leadoff walk to Mark Ellis and a single by Juan Rivera -- who came in 1 for 15 against the right-hander. But Matt Kemp struck out and Andre Ethier grounded into a double play. Ethier, who had 55 RBIs in his first 63 games to lead the NL, has only six in 29 games and 102 at-bats since then -- and none in his last nine contests. NOTES: Arizona 1B Lyle Overbay was designated for assignment to free up a roster spot for Johnson. ... 3B Hanley Ramirez was 0 for 4 with a stolen base in his first home game for the Dodgers since they acquired him and LHP Randy Choate last Wednesday in a trade that sent Nathan Eovaldi and minor league RHP Scott McGough to Miami. In his 18 previous games at Dodger Stadium, Ramirez batted .388 with three homers and 10 RBIs. ... It was a bad case of déjà vu for the Winnipeg Goldeyes Wednesday night. Wholesale Jerseys. The Goldeyes took a 3-1 lead into the eighth inning, only to watch the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks storm back for a 5-3 win before 4,811 fans. After each team scored a run in the third inning, the Goldeyes took a 3-1 lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. However, Winnipeg left one man on base in the sixth inning and two in the seventh, failing to capitalize on a chance to extend its lead. Fargo scored four runs in the eighth inning to retake the lead, doing so on four hits and the benefit on an error. The knockout blow came when Zach Penprase hit an RBI double to tie the game and then scored on a Jon Gaston single for what would be the winning run. Jon Weber had two hits for Winnipeg, while Price Kendall, Chris Roberson and Luis Alen drove in the runs. The Goldeyes wasted a terrific outing from starter Ace Walker, who allowed just a run on three hits through seven innings. Kyle Dahman picked the win for Fargo, while Tom Boleksa got the save for the second straight night. Billy Spottiswood was on the hook for the runs in the eighth inning and took the loss. The third game of this four-game series goes tomorrow night at Shaw Park. Winnipeg will send lefty Tony Butler to the bump, while Fargo will counter with Paul Burnside. Williams played through a bad back that forced her to get treatment and reduced her second serve to 63 mph (101 kph) in the third set. Chinas Li Na reached the finals of the Western & Southern Open with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 victory on Saturday. Li is trying for her first title this season. She lost in finals at Sydney, Rome and Montreal, where Petra Kvitova beat her for the Rogers Cup title a week ago. Kvitova played Angelique Kerber in the other semifinal on Saturday. Kerber ended Serena Williams 19-match winning streak a day earlier. Serena watched from a seat in the stands next to the players tunnel while her older sister struggled with her back, showing the strain during her fourth grueling, three-set match of the week. By reaching the semifinals, she showed shes been doing a better job of managing an immune system disorder that causes tiredness and soreness in her joints. The bad back was too much. Her semifinal loss aside, its been a kick-up-your-heels week for Williams, who faded last year because of injuries and the immune system disorder. Shes on an upswing heading into the U.S. Open, which she had to miss last year because of the disorder. She won an Olympic gold medal in doubles with her sister at Wimbledon, a moment she called the best of her career. On Cincinnatis hard courts, she reached her first semifinal of the season by winning one long match after another. She was the more surprising of the Williams sisters to reach the semifinals. Serena was on one of her best stretches, winning Olympic gold medals in singles and doubles while putting together the third-longest winniing streaks of her career. Black Friday NFL Jerseys Li had the most challenging time of the women this week in Cincinnati. She had the last match on Thursday night, and it got postponed by rain. She ended up playing two matches a few hours apart on Friday, winning both of them to reach the semifinals. Li beat Johanna Larsson 6-2, 6-2 in the opener match on Friday morning. She took the court less than seven hours later and beat top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1, 6-1, who had a sore shoulder. On Saturday, she seemed much fresher than Williams, who lost games on her serve twice by double faulting. Williams had 21 unforced errors in the first set, which took 61 minutes. After the third game of the second set, Williams called for the trainer. She placed a white towel on the court and lay face-down for several minutes while the trainer worked on her lower back. Williams went back out on the court and broke Lis serve to even the set at 2-all. Williams had trouble getting anything on her serve -- she moved stiffly -- and ambled to her chair during breaks, leaning down to stretch her back. With the crowd cheering every point, she kept playing and kept winning, breaking Li again to go up 4-2 and serving it the set. Before one serve early in the third set, she started to raise her arm to toss the ball and had to stop because of her back. She then served at 66 mph -- and held serve. One of her second serves clocked 63 mph a few games later. Williams pushed herself up to the end. She ran down a ball for a put-away slam in the last game, which Li won when Williams hit a return long -- her 47th unforced error during the 2-hour, 8-minute match. Williams smiled as he walked to the net to shake hands. ' ' '

LONDON -- Andre Villas-Boas was narrowly denied his first win in charge of Tottenham after West Bromwich Albion equalized in the 90th minute to draw 1-1 Saturday in the Premier League. Owen Daniels Womens Jersey. James Morrison scored from close-range 30 seconds into stoppage time after William Gallas had cleared off the line at White Hart Lane. Benoit Assou-Ekotto smashed home a deflected half-volley in the 74th to put Tottenham ahead. Led by former Chelsea coach Villas-Boas, Tottenham has one point from two league matches after losing to Newcastle in the opener. Tottenham dominated the first half but Jermain Defoe, Rafael van der Vaart, Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale were all guilty of spurning good chances. The 34-year-old Villas-Boas, who replaced Harry Redknapp as coach, insisted he was not panicking about Tottenhams season. "It is very, very important to get that first win but there are still 36 games ahead of us," Villas-Boas said. "There is a good feeling about what we are doing. We are just waiting for the results to accompany us a little bit more." Tottenham was on top throughout the first half, but the only difficult save Ben Foster had to make before Spurs opened the scoring was from Assou-Ekottos free kick just after the break. Van der Vaart looked a shadow of the player who has frightened Premier League defences for the last two seasons and despite looking sharp on occasions, Defoe struggled to make an impact on his own up front. LONDON -- Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli will face no further punishment for a studs-up challenge on Arsenals Alex Song. Vince Wilfork Jersey. The foul was not punished during Sundays 1-0 loss at Arsenal, but retrospective action cannot be taken because at least one of the match officials witnessed the incident, the English Football Association said Tuesday. He would have faced a three-match ban if he had been found guilty of violent conduct and a further three-match ban because it would have counted as his fourth sending off of the season. Balotelli was sent off later in Sundays match for a second foul on Bacary Sagna, leaving him with just a three-match ban. Of the Song incident, the FA said sanctions are normally imposed retrospectively for off-the-ball incidents "where there was no contest for possession and could not be deemed to be re-refereeing an incident." "In agreement with FIFA, this is how not seen incidents are dealt with retrospectively in England," the FA added in a statement. "It is a policy that is agreed with all football stakeholders." Balotelli was first dismissed at Liverpool in November and was then hit with a retrospective four-match ban for stamping on Tottenhams Scott Parker in January. Tom Brady Elite Jersey." Lions face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Sundays Grey Cup game. The Lions coach and general manager even practised how his team should handle the Grey Cups longer half-time break during Fridays workout at B.C. Place Stadium. The halftime during a regular-season CFL game is around 14 minutes. The halftime at Grey Cup will be extended to 28 minutes due to a performance by the Canadian rock band Nickelback. "A half hour is a long time," said Buono. "IIt gives them an extra 10 or 15 minutes to think about the game. Wes Welker Jersey" The Lions were on the field for around 90 minutes Friday when Buono had all the players and coaches head to the dressing room. The team reappeared after about 20 minutes and continued with drills. "It makes them realize that when they go back out after halftime they have to get focused, re-energized," Buono said. "I think its going to be a long half hour sitting around. "Its not like we are being entertained." ' ' '

MARTINSVILLE, Va. Cheap NFL Jerseys China. -- Kasey Kahne is the first two-time pole winner of the season in NASCARs Sprint Cup Series after he posted the fastest lap in qualifying Saturday at Martinsville Speedway. Hell start the race 27th in points, and hopes its the start of a turnaround in fortune. "We have had great Friday and Saturdays and just havent put together a Sunday yet," the Hendrick Motorsports driver said. "Hopefully tomorrow will be a nice start to a really good season." Kahne, who also started first at Las Vegas, toured the 0.526-mile oval at 97.126 mph, depriving Kevin Harvick of a sweep of weekend qualifying at the track. Harvick, who won the pole for Saturdays truck series race earlier, had a run at 97.048. The pole is the 24th of Kahnes career, and first in 17 starts on the oldest, shortest track in the premier series. He said patience will be key at the start in Sundays 500-lap event. "When you come to Martinsville, until about lap 250 you really dont know what you have," he said. "You can lead the race early, you can slide around and be slow early and after about lap 250, 300, that is when you finally realize how good your car is or how bad it is." Thats a lesson it took Harvick years to learn, and he won here a year ago. "For many years I couldnt finish in the top 10," he said. "It has just taken a while to get to this point. All in all, we have had a good couple-year run. You never know when it will end, but all in all it has been pretty good for us lately." The top five also includes Denny Hamlin, who has four career victories on the tight, tricky layout, followed by Clint Bowyer and Ryan Newman, followed by Brian Vickers, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, a seven-time winner here, and Joey Logano. Defending series champion Tony Stewart, who won here last fall, will start 15th, and points leader Greg Biffle will start 26th. The second-seeded former world No. 1 Nadal handled 12th-seeded fellow countryman Nicolas Almagro 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, 6-3 amid some drizzle at times on Court Chatrier, while a sixth-seeded Ferrer ousted fourth-seeded British star Andy Murray 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-2 on Court Lenglen. The 26-year-old Nadal moved on in 2 hours, 46 minutes Wednesday with the help of 10 aces, and 45 unforced errors by the overmatched Almagro. Nadal also broke Almagro three times, while Almagro failed to break his mighty counterpart on Day 11. "I was just trying to wait for my moments," Nadal said. "He had some good moments and he was hitting the ball hard, but I had my chances, too." Nadal, now 50-1 lifetime at Roland Garros, has yet to lose a set at this 2012 French fortnight, while Almagro hadnt lost a set until Wednesday. "His serve was really good today," Almagro said. "At the important moments, he served better. The key of the match is I had my chances and I didnt catch it." The 10-time Grand Slam champ Nadal is the reigning two-time titlist in Paris, having beaten Roger Federer in last years finale at the worlds lone clay-court major. Nadal is now a seven-time French Open semifinalist (6-0) and trying to become the first man in the Open Era to capture seven French Open titles. The 30-year-old Ferrer, meanwhile, landed in his first-ever French Open and third career Grand Slam semifinal by dousing the three-time major finalist Murray in 3 hours, 45 minutes. The bout was interrupted by a 26-minute rain delay in the third set. Murray tried to make it a match by squeaking out a second-set tiebreak to level the match, but Ferrer was simply just too strong for Murray on the clay and cruised over the next two sets to dismiss the frustrated Scot. Ferrer broke Murray for a 3-1 lead in the fourth set, consolidated the break with a hold for a 4-1 advantage, and was able to cross the finish line threee games later by converting on his second match point when Murray sent one final backhand long. Ferrer and Murray have now split 10 career meetings on the ATP World Tour. The 25-year-old Murray had reached at least the semifinals in five straight and eight of the last 11 Grand Slam events. Nadal is 15-4 lifetime against Ferrer, including a 2-0 record this year and a quarterfinal French Open victory back in 2005. Nadal has won their last four meetings overall. "It will be tough against him because hes the best player on clay in history," Ferrer said. Fridays other semi will pit top-seeded Novak Djokovic against the third- seeded former No. 1 great Federer. The five-time major champion Djokovic will compete in his fourth French semi, seeking a first-ever trip into the final in Paris, while Federer will play in French semi number seven (5-1). The 25-year-old Djokovic and 30-year-old Federer will meet for a 26th time, with the Swiss leading their all-time series, 14-11. The Serb beat Federer in a semifinal in Rome last month and has won five of their last six matchups, but the Swiss legend topped Djokovic in four sets in the French semis a year ago, which prevented the Serb from reaching his first-ever final at Roland Garros and stopped a 45-match overall winning streak by Djokovic. Djokovic is trying to become the first man in 43 years to hold all four Grand Slam titles. Aussie legend Rod Laver was the last man to turn the trick when he captured all four in one year back in 1969. The reigning Australian Open, U.S. Open and Wimbledon champion Djokovic is riding a torrid 26-match Grand Slam winning streak. Federer will appear in his 29th semifinal in his last 32 Grand Slam events. The 16-time major champ captured his lone French Open title in 2009 to complete a career Grand Slam and has been a four-time Roland Garros runner-up to Nadal. Federer hasnt captured a major title since the 2010 Aussie Open. The 2012 French Open champ will collect $1.5 million. ' ' '

Rob Gronkowski Elite Jersey.C. -- Basketball standout C. LOS ANGELES -- The San Francisco Giants said they had to move on after Melky Cabreras 50-game suspension for a positive drug test. Theyve done just that, regaining the NL West lead and improving to 5-2 since his punishment was announced last week. Solid pitching by Madison Bumgarner, Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain, along with hot-hitting from Angel Pagan on the current road trip has allowed the Giants to extend their division lead to 2 1/2 games. They beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 on Wednesday night for their first three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium in five years. The Giants arrived in Los Angeles trailing the Dodgers by a half-game and they leave with their largest lead in a month. "We have a lot of talent here and these guys stepped it up," manager Bruce Bochy said. "You hate to lose one of your best players, but its how you deal with it and those guys have. You have no choice. These guys have done a great job of putting it behind them." Cain pitched seven strong innings following strong outings by Bumgarner and Lincecum, and Joaquin Arias homered and drove in a career-high five runs to give the Giants their first sweep in Los Angeles since April 24-26, 2007. "It put a little pressure on you because you want to keep everything going on your end," said Cain (13-5), who allowed one run and seven hits, struck out five and walked none to win his third in a row. The Giants avenged a three-game sweep by the Dodgers in San Francisco last month that created a virtual tie atop the division. Now the Giants are ahead by their biggest margin since a 2 1/2-game lead on July 25. "It was one of those series where it just didnt seem like anything went our way," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. Chris Capuano (11-9) gave up three runs in the first inning before settling down and retiring 13 straight. But he became unhinged to start the sixth, giving up three consecutive hits. An RBI single by Pablo Sandoval chased Capuano. The left-hander allowed six runs and six hits in five-plus innings, struck out two and walked none. "Madison got it started for them and really shut us down and didnt give us much air at all," Capuano said. "We took it to them earlier in the year there and they kind of returned the favour." Arias hit a two-run homer in the first, giving the Giants a 3-0 lead after Sandovals sacrifice fly. Those two struck again in the sixth, Sandoval with an RBI ssingle and Arias with a run-scoring double. Vince Wilfork Womens Jersey Shawn Tolleson gave up a bases-loaded walk that scored Sandoval and extended the Giants lead to 6-0. "We came here with the mindset we needed to win," Sandoval said. "Its a lot of games coming up so we need to keep fighting." The Dodgers first run came on Hanley Ramirezs RBI single in the sixth. Arias two-run RBI double off Jamey Wright in the seventh made it 8-1. "Im very proud of what I did because everyone goes out there every day and tries to produce," Arias said through a translator. "As soon as I signed, it was my goal to make the team and stay here. I expect a lot of myself." The Dodgers rallied with three runs in the eighth to trail 8-4. Matt Kemp hit a run-scoring ground-rule double against Clay Hensley and Luis Cruz hit a two-run single with the bases loaded off Santiago Casilla before A.J. Ellis hit into an inning-ending double play. Giants left fielder Justin Christian ran full speed toward the left field corner and robbed Juan Rivera of extra bases with a diving catch on the warning track in the seventh with a runner on first base. "What a catch he made," Bochy said. Christian had his sore left wrist wrapped after the game, and he said he hoped he could play on Thursday when the Giants open a four-game series at home against Atlanta. Ethier was 0 for 18 before ending the drought in the sixth with a ground-rule double that was misjudged by right fielder Hunter Pence. BALTIMORE -- After losing two straight games to Toronto, the Baltimore Orioles broke out the big bats. The Orioles tied a team record by with seven home runs to rout the Blue Jays 12-2 and stay within 1 1/2 games of the AL East lead. Chris Davis and Manny Machado each connected twice and the Orioles remained close to the division-leading New York Yankees, who won 8-2 in Minnesota. Nate McLouth hit a leadoff shot in the first inning and Jim Thome and Mark Reynolds also homered. Baltimore has hit seven home runs three times, most recently on Aug. 26, 1985. "Home runs are very unique, and when you do what we did tonight, its something to be proud of. Its something that doesnt happen a whole lot in the game," Thome said. Thomes home run was the 612th of his career and the first hes hit at home for the Orioles. "Up and down the lineup, everyone swung the bat well. Its been fun," Thome said. Davis finished with a career-high five RBIs to help the Orioles split a four-game series with the last-place Blue Jays. "This was a tough series. It was one of those ones that you dont want to see at the end of the season coming in off a long road trip," Davis said. "I think if youd have told us a few months ago that wed be a game-and-a-half out with six games left, I think youd be pretty happy with that." Beginning Friday, the Orioles have three games with Boston at home and three at Tampa Bay. "We just got through playing Boston and we played them well. Obviously, the three in Tampa are going to be tough, but were at a point where we still have a chance, so thats all you can ask for," Davis said. The Orioles trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth before hitting three home runs. Thome led off with his third homer since joining the Orioles. With two outs, Machado hit his fifth of the year for a 3-2 Baltimore lead. All of Machados home runs have come at home, and his drive was the Orioles 200th homer of the year. Davis three-run drive gave the Orioles a five-run inning and finished Carlos Villanueva (7-7). Villanueva equaled a career high by giving up four home runs. "Those mistakes I made, they hit them with authority. They put the power stroke on them and made me pay for them," Villanueva said. Machado and Thome are the first AL teammates to hit home runs in the same inning with an age difference of more than 20 years, according to home run historian David Vincent. Thome is 42 and Machado is 20 -- Thomes major league career began 10 months before Machado was born. "Thats crazy," Machado said. "Its a pretty good stat. I remember when I used to watch (Thome) play when I was a little kid. Now to hit a home run in the same inning he did, just feels great." Davis hit his second home run in the seventh. On Aug. 24, he hit three home runs against the Blue Jays, also in a game started by Villanueva. He has 28 home runs. Reynolds hit his 23rd homer in the sixth and Machado added a two-run shot in the eighth. Miguel Gonzalez (8-4) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings. He allowed Edwin Encarnacions 42nd home run with two outs in the top of the first. With one out in the fifth, J.P. Arencibia, who went 7 for 9 in the four-game series, doubled and scored on Anthony Goses single. On the second half of a back-to-back at that -- and after falling into a 13-point hole early. Its the type of stuff Elton Brand came to expect from the 76ers a season ago, a pattern theyll have to continue to make it through the rugged Eastern Conference. "We kind of came together tonight defensively and you saw how we shared the ball," said Brand, who tied his career high of five steals in the 76ers 107-79 victory over the Warriors on Saturday night. "Thats how we were last year. It bodes well for our psyche to win a ballgame like that, especially being down and having to grind it out." One night after blowing a 13-point lead in a loss to Utah, Philadelphia fell behind by that same margin early against Golden State before outscoring the Warriors 69-41 over the second and third quarters. More telling were the Sixers season-high 29 assists, seven from Andre Iguodala, who also had 14 points and eight rebounds. Lou Williams added 23 points off the bench, while Spencer Hawes had his third double-double this season with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the 76ers, who have one more stop left on their road trip -- the longest to start a season in franchise history. "There are certain moments that you dont forget as a coach, and today will be one of those days," coach Doug Collins said. "I thought we got our team back today. Our bench turned the game around for us." Stephen Curry, back in the lineup after a one-game absence due to a sprained ankle, scored 21 points for Golden State, which played without guard Monta Ellis. "Just a disappointing outing across the board," Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "They (came) here with the mindset of beating us and they did it." The Sixers were playing for the second straight night while the Warriors hadnt played since Wednesday. It showed early, as Golden State built a lead midway through the first quarter. Collins tweaked his lineup slightly after that, getting Williams on the court in place of starting guard Jodie Meeks. Williams, who missed a potential tying shot in the final seconds against Utah, immediately gave the Sixers a spark and finished 7 of 11 from the floor, 4 for 4 on three-pointers. He scored on a three-point play in the fourth quarter to give Philadelphia a 91-66 lead, sending many in the crowd of 19,084 streaming for the exits.dddddddddddd. "I just thought we continued to push through the game," Williams said. "They made a run early on and the second group came on and was able to close the gap, then the first group came back in and steadied the ship after that. We just continued to push forward." Philadelphia, which had lost five of its previous six in Oracle Arena, built a 20-point lead early in the third quarter, then coasted the rest of the way. Ellis, who left the team earlier in the week following the death of his grandmother, was in Mississippi for the funeral. Its uncertain whether hell return in time for Mondays game in Phoenix. Klay Thompson started in place of Ellis and scored three points with three assists. Curry did not play in Wednesdays win over the New York Knicks after spraining his right ankle two nights earlier, the same ankle he had surgery on in May. The Warriors held Curry out of practice this week then cleared him to play against the Sixers. Both decisions paid off nicely for Golden State. Curry looked strong following the brief layoff and moved around without any noticeable restrictions. He also scored 10 points in the first quarter, including a three-pointer with 1.4 seconds left to give the Warriors a 25-19 lead. Philadelphia, which missed 11 of its first 14 shots while settling for mid-range jumpers, attacked Golden States defence more aggressively in the second and scored 31 points to take control. Less than 24 hours after their meltdown against the Jazz, Philadelphia didnt let up against Golden State and led by as much as 66-45 midway through the third quarter. "We had them right where we wanted ... and we let them back into the game," Curry said. "Its one of those games thats going to make us stronger in the end, but you cant have it at home when you have a chance to go 3-1 to start our season off." The Warriors, who didnt attempt a free throw until 2 1/2 minutes into the second half, played so sluggishly after their quick start that new owner Joe Lacob slumped in his courtside chair, arms folded in frustration. Golden State managed just 12 points in the third and trailed 72-54 going into the final period. Notes: It was the first time since Oct. 3, 2010, that Golden State did not take a free throw in the first half. ... WASHINGTON -- Freddy Sanchez wont play this season -- and he might be done for good with the San Francisco Giants -- after the team announced Thursday that he will back surgery. Manager Bruce Bochy said Sanchez will have a microdiscectomy performed by Dr. Robert Watkins on Wednesday to remove part of a disc, the latest and perhaps most serious setback in the second basemans injury-marred tenure with the Giants. "You know hes disappointed," Bochy said. "He played a critical role in our success in 2010." The 34-year-old three-time All-Star and 2006 NL batting champion became the first player in major league history with three doubles in his first three World Series at-bats two years ago when the Giants captured their first championship since moving West to San Francisco. Sanchez also kept his team alive with a ninth-inning single in a memorable Game 3 victory over the Atlanta Braves that year in the playoffs. "That base hit, Ill always remember it," Bochy said. "It would be a lot tougher if we had lost that game. Obviously one of the bigger hits in the post-season." But Sanchez has spent the bulk of the time just trying to stay healthy since joining the Giants in a trade-deadline deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2009. He had surgery on his left shoulder in December 2009 and December 2010 and on his right shoulder in August 2011. His back started acting up during rehab work this year, and he had an epidural in his lower back in May. Sanchez will make $6 million this year and is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the season. "You dont know whats going to happen when the seasons over," Bochy said. Cheap Jerseys China. You have lost your precious sons, Bathurst Mayor Stephen Brunet told the families of the boys, who were joined by thousands of mourners inside a local arena. We have lost seven future leaders. For a moment just imagine in your mind what they could have done. The caskets of the seven boys were covered with a spray of flowers. A large photo of each boy sat at the head of the coffins, along with their team number. People began arriving at the arena - some clutching flowers - hours before the start of the service. Eight people died at the scene of the accident on Saturday - the seven boys and the coachs wife, Beth Lord, 51, whose funeral will be held on Thursday. Five of those who died - Nathan Cleland, Justin Cormier, Daniel Hains, Javier Acevedo and Codey Branch - were 17 years old. The other two students were Nick Quinn, 16, and Nicholas Kelly, 15. Emily Cleland remembered her brothers compassion. He was one of those people who would listen to you even if he didnt understand what you were going through, she said in a eulogy. He actually preferred to listen. My brother was the strong, silent type. But when he had something to say, it was always something meaningful and witty.
