-The Story-
-A week before Rayne's arrival-
I couldn't believe my cousin would be here in a week. Me and Rayne were so close you'd swear we were sisters, not cousins. But we're also best friends, so things worked out. Anyway, I was at work when Criss walked in. Yes, I work at the Mindfreak store and I know Criss Angel. When I told Rayne the first time, I thought she would have a heart attack. Rayne was a die-hard Loyal. You know, one of Criss' fans. Anyway, he walked in and said, "Hey, Mackie, what's new?" "Not much. My cousin will be here in a week and I am really excited." I said. "Oh, yeah, you metioned she'd be moving in with you. What's her name again?" he said. "Rayne." I said. "Cool. Where does she live?" he asked. "At the moment, she lives in Bethel, New York. She was born in Manhattan, but my aunt and uncle wanted to live in the country. So they moved to Bethel when she was 11." I explained. "Wow. How come she's moving in with you?" he asked. "Well, my aunt and uncle died in a car accident and she said she's tired of living with just her dog and cat. So, she moving here to live with me and to find a job." I said. "Ah." he said. Then I got an idea. "Hey, Criss?" I said. "Yeah?" he said. "Are there any jobs here?" I asked with a smile on my face.
~A week later~
~Rayne's POV~
I pulled up to the Luxor and got out of my car. It had been a long flight and a slightly long drive and I was wiped. A bellboy came up to me and said, "Welcome. Do you need help with your things?" "Yes, please." I said. I grabbed my Corpse Bride messager bag and followed him into the lobby. It was a really fancy hotel. I walked up to the receptionist and said, "Hi, I'm Rayne Delegrosso. My cousin lives in room 5116 and she said she reserved a key for me." "Ah, yes, hang on a moment." she said as she pulled out a key and a envelope. "Here's your key. The envelope is from your cousin." she said. "Thank you." I said. I headed up to the room and the bellboy helped me get my things inside. "Thank you." I said, handing him a 5. He waved goodbye and left. I got my things into my room and I let my pet dachshund, Lydia, and my black cat, Kira, out of their carriers. I opened the note from Mackie. It said:
~Hey, cuz!~
Welcome to Vegas! Sorry I couldn't meet you at the lobby or in the room, but I have to work. Just meet me down at the Mindfreak store and I'll see you there. Plus, I think I can get you a job sooner than you think! See you soon.
~Love, Mackie~
P.S.: When you get there, the store might not be open yet, so just wait for Steven to come and let you in.

I set the note down and grabbed my bag and key. I went down to the casino and then to the shops. I saw the Mindfreak store. As it said in the note, the store looked closed. I looked at a nearby clock. 8:30am. The store didn't open 'till 9 in the morning. I went over and looked through the door. I saw Steven, who was Mackie's boyfriend and one of my friends, hanging some hoodies up on a nearby rack. I knocked on the door and he saw me. I waved and he walked over and let me in. "Hey, Rayne, it's so good to see you again." he said and he hugged me. "It's good to see you too." I said. He let me in the store. "Wow, this place is wicked!" I said, looking around. "Hey, Rayne!" a voice said. I turned and saw Mackie over by the counter. I walked over and hugged her and said, "Oh, man, I missed you!" "I missed you too!" she said. I let her go and she said, "Wow, you're way more Goth than the last time I saw you." I laughed. I was wearing a black and purple Jack Skellington shirt, 3 necklaces, including the pentagram necklace my mom gave me, a black leather jacket with sleaves that came to my elbows, black fingerless gloves, spikey bracelets, a black and purple plaid skirt, a spiked belt with a chain hanging from it, and long combat boots. "Yeah, I guess." I said. She just laughed. Then she said, "Rayne, I think I found a job for you." "Really? Where?" I asked. "Here." a male voice said.
----------------------------------------------------------
We all turned to see Criss Angel standing behind the counter. I was in shock. I looked at Mackie, who was just grinning away. Criss came out from behind the counter and said, "You must be Rayne." "Yes, I am." I said. "Well, it's very nice to meet you, Rayne." he said, extending his hand. I shook it and said, "It's nice to meet you, too, Criss." He nodded and turned to Mackie. "Well, did you tell her?" he asked. "I was about to. Rayne, there's a job open here at the store and we've kept it reserved for you!" Mackie said. "Are you serious?!" I said. "Yes, I'm serious!" Mackie said. "So, Rayne, would you like to work here at the Mindfreak store?" Criss asked. I thought for a moment and said, "Yes!" Mackie squeeze-hugged me and said, "Oh, this is so awesome." "Yeah, it is! But, um, Mackie, can you let me go? You're kinda hurting me." I said. She released me and said, "Sorry." I just laughed. Then Criss said, "Great. You start Monday." I smiled and said, "Thank you, Criss, Mackie." Criss just smiled. Then I realized something. "Oh, crap! I gotta go feed Lydia and Kira! I'll see you later!" I said, and I ran out of the store.
~Criss' POV~
"Your cousin is a very interesting person, Mackie." I said as Rayne ran out the door. She had to go feed her pets. "Yeah, well, she's been trying to move on with her life since the accident a year ago. She's been taking it as well as possible." Mackie said. "Has she always been Goth?" I asked. "For as long as I can remember." she said. Then Mackie and Steven returned to work and I left for my room. I sat in my room, thinking about Rayne.
~That night~
~Rayne's POV~
After Mackie got off from work, she came back and we ate and then we watched That 70's Show together. After the show was over, Mackie went to her room and I was lying on the couch, flipping through the channels until I found a channel showing one of my favorite movies. But I fell asleep in the middle of the movie. But as I slept, I had the weirdest dream.
~Rayne's Dream~
I was in the middle of a large desert. There was nothing around except for bones and dust. I was wearing a black dress. Then a demon started chasing me. It was a very ugly demon and it looked like it came from Hell. Then, an angel with black wings came and saved me. I didn't know who it was. I was about to find out when I heard someone say, "Rayne? Rayne?"
~End of Dream~
"Rayne, wake up." I heard Mackie say. I opened my eyes to see Mackie sitting in the chair next to me. "What happened?" I asked. "You fell asleep. Not that I blame you, since you had a long trip." she said. "Oh, God, I just had the weirdest dream." I said as I sat up. "Tell me about it." she said. So I told her. When I finished, she asked, "So, who was the angel?" All I said was, "I don't know"
---------------------------------------------------------
"Rayne, c'mon, I'm getting worried." Mackie said. We were on our way to work that morning and she wouldn't stop talking about that dream I've having for the past few nights. "What's to worry about?" I asked, yawning. "Rayne, you've been losing sleep over this dream. Maybe it's a sign or something." she said. "Like what? That the angel is the guy of my dreams?" I asked. "Maybe. You've been having this dream ever since last Friday when Criss gave you the job." she said. "So, what, are you saying that Criss is the angel?" I asked. "No. But it's weird." she said. We walked into the store to see Criss and Steven. Mackie gave Steven a kiss and I just waved. "Are you okay, Rayne? You look really pale and tired." Criss said, concerned. "I'm fine. I just haven't been sleeping well." I said. He just nodded and then said to Mackie, "Can you show Rayne where the employees keep their things?" "Yeah." Mackie said, then she took my arm and dragged me to the back of the store.
~Criss' POV~
"She didn't look too good, did she?" I asked Steven. "Rayne? Yeah. Mackie told me the other day that she's been having this weird dream and it's been keeping her up." he said. "Weird dream?" I asked. "Yeah. Something about an angel or something, I don't really know." he said. Then he left for the back. I was really worried about Rayne. I had feelings for her now and seeing her like like this worried me. Then I heard a 'thud' and I heard Mackie scream, "Rayne! Oh, God!" I ran to the back. I saw Rayne passed out on the floor, with Mackie trying to get her to come to. "What happened?" I asked. " I don't know. She just passed out." she said. I kneeled down and shook her gently. "Rayne? Rayne?" I said.
~Rayne's POV~
I heard Criss' voice as I came to. I saw Criss and Mackie looking at me with worried expressions on their faces. They helped me up and Criss said, "Are you okay?" "Yeah. I just got a little dizzy." I said. "Rayne, that's it. You've got to see someone about this dream. It's ruining you. You look like the undead." Mackie said. "Thanks." I said sarcasticly. "Well, it's true." she said. Then Criss said, "Maybe I can help. Mackie, bring her to my room tonight at 7." "Okay." she said. "Whoa, hold it. Isn't it kinda my decision if I go or not?" I said. "Rayne, c'mon. If you don't do something about this, you could get sick." Mackie said. "Fine. Criss, we'll be over tonight at 7." I said. "Okay, then." he said. Then he turned and left. As he left, I began to think about what Mackie said about me having this dream since the day I got here. After Criss gave me the job. Was the angel Criss? Was it really some kind of sign?
--------------------------------------------------------
Mackie took me up to Criss' room that night. He said he was going to try and help me with this dream I've been having about a mysterious angel saving me from a demon. She thought it was some kind of sign telling me that the angel was the guy of my dreams. I had been having the dream ever since the day I got here and since Criss gave me that job at the Mindfreak store. I think Mackie thought the angel was Criss and she just wasn't telling me. Oh, well. Anyway, we made it to Criss' room and Mackie rang the doorbell. He answered the door and said, "Hey, guys. Come in." He led us inside and I said, "So, how are you gonna help me with this dream?" "Well, I'm gonna hypnotize you and make you tell me what you see in the dream." he said. "Great." I said. "I think the only reason she's losing sleep over this is because she's trying to find out the identity of the angel." Mackie said. "Yeah, that seems to be the problem." I said."I see, well this should help find out." he said. He took me over to the couch and he said, "Mackie, I'm sorry, but you're going to have to leave. You might get hypnotized too." "Okay. Rayne, good luck." she said as she left. "Yeah, thanks." I said. "Okay, Rayne, now just relax." he said. I did, and then he said, "I'm gonna count to three. Your eyes should be shut when I get to three." I nodded and he started counting. "One...two...three." he said slowly. Soon, my eyes were shut and then he said, "Now, you will tell me what you see." "I see nothing but dust and bones and dryness. I'm in a black dress I've never seen in my life." I said. "Okay, anything else?" he asked. "Yes. The demon is coming. It's chasing me." I said. "What does the demon look like?" he asked. "Like...like the driver that killed my parents, except he had horns and claws. Like he's straight from Hell." I said. "Okay, now what do you see?" he asked. "Now I see the angel coming. He just grabbed me. I can't see the demon anymore. He's gone out of sight." I said. "Now what's happening?" Criss asked. "I'm looking at the angel's face for the first time. It's...it's..." but my voice started to trail and being hypnotized was becoming too much for me to handle. I passed out on the couch.
~Criss' POV~
Rayne passed out before finishing her sentence. She was about to tell me who the angel in her dream was when she passed out. I think with her being so tired it just got to her. It happened sometimes. Then she started moving.
~Rayne's POV~
I woke up still lying on Criss' couch. I sat up and he sat next to me. "Are you okay?" he asked. "Yeah, I'm fine." I said, rubbing my head. Then he said, "Rayne, you were about to tell me who the angel in your dream was. Who was it?" I looked at him and said, "It was you, Criss. You're the angel in my dream." He just stared at me in shock.
---------------------------------------------------------
Criss just stared at me for a few minutes. After I told him that the angel in my dream was him, I think he went into shock. I waved my hand in front of his eyes and said, "Criss? Hello?" He snapped out of it and said, "I'm sorry, but did you say the angel was me?" "Um, yeah." I said. "Are you sure?" he asked. "Yeah. He looked exactly like you, except for the wings." I said. He just laughed a little and then said, "Well, okay, I believe you." I just smiled, but I was still a little weirded out that Criss was the angel. I mean, what did it mean? Then Criss said, "Do you think it means something?" "I don't know." I said. I got up and said, "I'm gonna go home and think this over." "Oh, okay. Goodnight." he said as I walked out the door.
~Later~
"So the angel was Criss?" Mackie asked when I told her. We were sitting on the couch watching That 70's Show when I told her. "Yes, he was, okay?" I said, a little annoyed. "Okay, chill." she said. Then the doorbell rang. "Oh, yeah, I've got a date with Steven." she said, with guilt in her voice. "Go. Have fun. I need time to think anyway." I said. She hugged me and ran out the door with Steven. I just sat there, watching That 70's Show. It was the one where Eric thought Hyde stole his money and Kelso said 'pickleweasle'. My cat, Kira, crawled next to me and I stroked her head. Then someone knocked on the front door. "Who is it?" I yelled. "It's Criss." the person said. I sighed and said, "Come in." He came in and shut the door behind him. I just sat there watching the show. Kira got up and hissed. "Kira, be nice!" I said. She stopped and walked away. Then Lydia came in and sat next to me before Criss could. I laughed and said, "I'm sorry, Criss. They don't like sharing." He laughed and said, "It's okay." He sat in the chair next to me and said, "Rayne, you seemed upset when you left earlier." "Yeah, I know. I just had to think. And I think Mackie's theory is true." I said. "What was her theory?" he asked. "That the angel was the guy of my dreams." I said, turning a little red. "Oh, I see. Well, can I tell you something?" he asked. "Sure, what is it?" I asked. But Criss didn't say a word. Instead, he kissed me. Just like that.
----------------------------------------------
Criss had been kissing me for a minute. I was in so much shock that I wasn't able to kiss back. When he pulled away, he asked, "Why didn't you kiss back?" "As much as I wanted to, I was in total shock." I admited. "You wanted to kiss me, but you were in shock?" he asked. "Yeah." I said, turning a little red. "Look, Rayne. The truth is I've loved you since I met you. I just didn't know how to tell you." he admited. I was is even more shock than before. Criss Angel was in love with me? We sat there in silence and after a while I said, "Criss, the truth is, I've been in love wih you, too." He smiled and then kissed me again. But this time, I kissed back. Then Criss pulled away and said, "Hey, Rayne, would you like to go out tomorrow?" I smiled and said, "Sure." He smiled and we sat there, watching That 70's Show together. "I've never seen this show before, but I've heard of it. I saw the KISS video a few years back." Criss said. "Really? I love this show. I have the complete series on DVD, but I like watching on TV." I said. Then Lydia and Kira came out of my room and crawled in between me and Criss. I picked Lydia up and said, "You two need to learn to share." She just looked at me. Criss laughed a little and said, "I thought I was the only person that talked to their pet." "Oh, yeah, I forgot you had your cat Hammie." I said. We kept talking until Mackie and Steven got back. "Hey, guys, how was your date?" I asked. "It was good." Mackie said. She kissed Steven and he left. Then Criss got up and walked to the door. I got up with him. He kissed me again and said bye to Mackie and then he left. Then Mackie pulled me to the couch and said, "Am I paranoid or did Criss just kiss you?" "He kissed me." I said with a smile. "Tell me what happened." she said excitedly. So I told her all about what happened and I thought she was gonna pass out. "So you're going out with Criss tomorrow?" she asked when she regained her voice. "Yep." I said. "Oh, my God, I'm so happy for you!" she cried and she squeeze-hugged me. "Thanks, Mackie, but please let me go. You're hurting me again." I said. She let me go and said, "Sorry." We just laughed and we watched That 70's Show for most of the night. It was an all-night marathon. Soon Mackie went to bed and I was lying on the couch in my PJs. I was wrapped in my Nightmare before Christmas throw. By the time I fell asleep, it was 2 in the morning. I shut the TV off and drifted to sleep. ~The next morning~
I was still sprawled on the couch asleep when someone started shaking me gently. I woke up and looked above me to see Criss standing there. I slid off the couch and landed on the floor. "Ow." I said, rubbing my head. "Are you okay?" he asked and he helped me up. "Yeah, I'm fine. Who let you in?" I asked. "Mackie let me in this morning." he said. "What time is it?" I asked. "It's almost 10." Criss said. "Crap! Wasn't I supposed to work today?" I asked. "Yep. But since you're new, I'm gonna let you slide with this one." Criss said. I smiled and went to my room and got dressed in jeans and a Corpse Bride t-shirt. I threw my pentagram necklace on and grabbed my bag and a random hoodie. I threw my high-tops on and I led Criss out the door. "Nice hoodie." he said with a laugh. I looked at the hoodie to see it was my Mindfreak zip-up. I turned a little red. "Relax. It's nice to know that the girl I like supports what I do." Criss said as we walked into the store. Mackie was helping a customer and Steven was restocking some DVDs. I took my stuff to the back and threw my hoodie on. "So, where would you like to go to dinner tonight?" Criss asked when I came from the back. I just shrugged and said, "Wherever's good." He just nodded. Then I started doing my job and he left.
~Later~
Me and Mackie were on our break. I went to a local CD store and bought the new Three Days Grace CD. We were now sitting at the food court eating food from Wendy's. Then we saw Criss and Steven walking towards us. They sat down with us and we all talked. I showed them my new CD and they just nodded. Then we headed back to the store and went back to work.
~That night~
I ran a comb through my hair. When I got home from work, I showered and put my nicest dress on. It is the only dress I own. It's a black spagetti strap with a corset top with blood-red ribbons. I wore black high-heeled boots and my pentagram necklace. I heard the doorbell ring and I went to answer it. It was Criss. He was wearing a black suit. "Hi, Criss." I said. "Hey. Man, you look great." he said. "Thanks, you too." I said. He smiled and took my hand. I shut the front door behind us. He led me down to the restaurant that was part of the casino. We sat at a table and the waiter took our orders. While we waited for our food, Criss said, "So Mackie told me you were born in the city." "Yeah. I lived there until I was 11 and then we moved to Bethel. Ever hear of Bethel?" I said. "Yeah, I heard something about a festival behind held there back in '69." he said. "Yeah, the Woodstock festival. Now the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is there. I've been to it." I said. "Cool." he said. We kept talking until our food came. We ate dinner, kept talking, and then Criss payed for dinner and he took me back to my apartment. He kissed me and then left. I went into my room, put my PJs on, and went to bed.
-2 weeks later-
I've been dating Criss for 2 weeks now and I still couldn't believe it. I was really happy, though. I was still working at the Mindfreak store with Mackie and Steven. I still need money so I could on living. Anyway, one day I was sitting in my room reading a book. It was my day off. I heard someone knocking at the front door. I got up to answer the door. It was Criss. "Hey, Rayne." he said and he kissed me. "Hey." I said and I let him in. We sat on the couch talking until Mackie burst in holding a newspaper. "Rayne, we've got a really big problem!" she said. "What is it, what's wrong?" I asked, worried. "Look." she said handing me the paper. I looked at the front page and read the headline. It screamed, "CONVICT ESCAPES FROM PRISON IN BETHEL!" A picture of a man was under that and the article followed. It said, "22-year-old Joseph Sterling escaped from a prison in Bethel, New York late last night. He was arrested a year ago for attemped rape on his former girlfriend, 20-year-old Rayne Delegrosso. A letter left in his cell was found saying that he was going to Las Vegas to find Delegrosso. Police in Nevada have been advised to watch out for Sterling." I dropped the paper and stumbled onto the couch. I felt very dizzy. Criss picked up the paper and read the article. Then he looked at me and said, "Why didn't you tell me about this?" I started crying and I said, "I'm sorry, but I was trying to forget about it. It was horrible. The worst part about it was that is right before my parents' deaths. Man, what am I gonna do?" Criss walked over and hugged me and said, "I know one thing's for sure: I am not gonna let this guy come anywhere near you." I smiled and said, "Thank you, Criss." He kissed me again and just held me to him.
~A week later~
I was at work one day when Criss walked in the store. He came over to me and said, "You okay?" "Yeah, at the moment, anyway." I said. Then someone walked in and started looking around. He looked at me and yelled, "Ah, I found you!" Then I realized it was Joseph. "Oh, no." Criss said. He stumbled over to us and he tried grabbing me. Criss pushed him and said, "Stay away from her." Then Joseph pulled something out of his coat pocket and pointed it at me. It was a gun. He fired it and the bullet nicked my arm. I screamed and fell backwards. "Rayne!" Criss yelled. Then he started beating the crap out of Joseph. I passed out as shouting and yelling filled the store.
~Later~
I woke up on my couch a few hours later. Criss, Mackie, and Steven were all sitting on the other couch. Criss was the first to notice that I was awake. He walked over to me and said, "Hey, are you okay?" "It depends. What happened after I passed out?" I asked. Then Mackie walked over to me and Criss and said, "Well, here's what happened..."
~Flashback (in Mackie's POV)~
I watched as Criss beat the crap out of Joseph. I saw Rayne on the ground. She was out cold and there was a cut on her arm. "Oh, God." I said. I ran over to Rayne. She was gonna be okay because the cut wasn't too serious. Then I watched as the police came in, followed by Criss' brothers, J.D. and Costa. They pulled Criss away from Joseph and the police took Joseph away. Then the guys came over to me and Rayne. "Is she gonna be okay?" Criss asked, worried. "She'll be okay, but I need help getting her back to our hotel room." I said. So Criss picked her up and carried her to our room. He set her on the couch. Then Steven came over to see if she was okay. We all waited for her to wake up.
~End of Flashback~
~Rayne's POV~
"And that's what happened." Mackie finished. She just told me what happened. "We were really scared when we saw him shoot you, Rayne." Criss said. "Yeah, but I'm okay now." I said as I sat up. Criss sat next to me and I said, "I'm surprised that you didn't kill Joseph when he shot me, Criss." "Yeah, I wanted to. I didn't like the fact that he was trying to kill you." he said. I just laughed a little. Then Mackie said, "Uh, we'll let you two be." She left, dragging Steven along with her. Soon it was just me and Criss. "Look, Criss, I'm sorry I didn't tell you about Joseph. I didn't want people to know." I said. He wrapped me in a hug and said, "It's okay, Rayne." I smiled and he kissed me.
-A few weeks later-
It was really quiet around the Mindfreak store when I got back from my break. Then I realized everyone was still on break and the store wouldn't open back up for another half-hour. So I stood by one of the registers and pulled my iPod out. I played 'Evil Angel' by Breaking Benjamin. It blasted through my ears and I couldn't hear a thing. Then someone kissed my forehead, scaring the crap outta me. I slid and fell, my headphones falling out of my ears. "Sorry, Rayne. I didn't know you couldn't hear me." I heard Criss said. "It's okay. People always tell me to turn my iPod down. I tend not to listen to such people." I said. He just laughed and he helped me up. I kissed his cheek and said, "So what's up?" "Nothing. I was finished with my work for the day and I wanted to see you." he said, holding me to him. "Lucky. I have to work until 4." I said. He looked at a nearby clock. It said '2:03'. "You know, I can give you the rest of the day off." he said. "I know, but I've gotta work." I said. "C'mon, one day won't hurt." he said, and he kissed me. "Well, okay." I said. So I grabbed my stuff from the back and we walked off to Criss' room. Hammie greeted us by the door. Criss picked him up and I stroked Hammie's head. "So what do you what to do, Criss?" I asked. He smirked and said, "Well-" but I cut him off by saying, "No, Criss." "Fine. Sorry." he said, and he set Hammie down. "We could play fooseball." he said. "Sure." I said. So we did. I beat him 10 to 9. "How did you learn to play so well?" he asked, surprised. "My cousin Ethan taught me." I said. He just laughed and he walked over to me. He pulled me to him and he kissed me. We just stood there kissing until we heard someone say ,"Guys, c'mon!" We stopped and turned our heads towards the door. There stood J.D. and Costa. "What?" we said. "Can you not kiss in the middle of the room? It's very weird." J.D. said. "Sorry." Criss said. I pulled out my cell phone and looked at the time. It said, '4:03'. "I gotta get home." I said. "Now? It's not even 5 o'clock yet." Criss said, slightly upset. "Well, I have to feed Kira and Lydia or they're start knawing on the furniture." I said. "Fine. C'mon, I'll take you to your room, then." Criss said. He led me to my room. But he stayed for a while when we got to my room. After I fed Kira and Lydia, me and Criss watched a movie and then he went back to his room. It was about 9 when Criss left, so once he left the apartment, I went to my bedroom and threw my PJs on and I went to sleep.
-a few weeks later-
I woke up one dreary Monday morning, feeling really crappy. But this wasn't the usual crappy I felt on Monday. It was the sick kind of crappy. Anyway, I was lying in my bed, coughing. I was paler than usual, I could barely breathe, and I was freezing. Plus, I had a really bad headache. I didn't think much when I was sick like this, but the first thing that popped into my mind was this: I was WAY too sick to go to work. Mackie had already left for work, so I couldn't tell her to tell Criss I couldn't come to work today. So I grabbed my phone off of my nightstand and texted Criss.
~Texts between Rayne and Criss~
Rayne: Criss? R u there?
Criss: I'm here. What is it?
Rayne: I'm really sick. I can't come 2 work 2day.
Criss: Oh, man. How sick r we talkin'?
Rayne: Sick enough.
Criss: Well, I'll come see u then.
Rayne: I don't know, Criss. What if u get sick 2?
Criss: Don't worry about me. I'll be up in a few minutes.
Rayne: OK. See u soon, I guess.
Criss: See u soon, Rayne.
~End of Texts~
I just laid there, waiting for Criss to come. Truth was, as much as I loved Criss, I didn't want him to come up. I didn't want him to get sick. I mean, he rarely gets sick anymore, but I'm one of the types of people that worries a bit too much sometimes. Dad always told me I got that from Mom's side of the family. Anyway, I was still lying there in bed, feeling really crappy, when I heard the doorbell ring. "Come in!" I yelled hoarsely. I heard the door open and shut. "Rayne? Where are you?" I heard Criss say. "In my room." I said, my throat aching. He walked in, carrying a pet carrier. 'Maybe he brought Hammie with him to cheer me up?' I thought. "Hey. How are you feeling?" he asked quietly. "Crappy." I said, and I buried my face into my pillow. I didn't want Criss to see me like this. "C'mon, Rayne. Look up for a second." he said. I heard the door on the pet carrier open. "Why?" I asked, my voice slightly muffled by the pillow. "Because I got you something." he said, plain and simple. So I looked up. In Criss' hands was a beautiful black cat with silver eyes. It was a Egyptian Mau. "Oh, my God." I said, smiling. He smiled back and said, "Her name is Syria." "Criss, she's beautiful. Thank you so much." I said. He handed me Syria and I stroked her head. She started purring. Now I had 3 pets and I didn't mind one bit. I yawned and said, "Thanks again, Criss." I laid back down and started to drift. Criss kissed my forehead before he left. The last thing I remember was Syria lying on my stomach purring as I fell asleep. And the last thing Criss said before I fell completely asleep and before he left was, "Sleep well, Rayne."
-a week later-
I was no longer as sick as a dog and things were pretty normal again. I would go to work with Mackie and Steven, and then go out with Criss. Anyway, I was sitting in my room one day. It was my day off, and I was just relaxing with a movie. Lydia, Kira, and Syria were all sleeping, each one of them in a different spot. Syria on the couch, Kira on the floor, and Lydia on a pillow on the floor. Anyway, I was just sitting there when someone knocked on the front door. I got up to answer it. I opened the door and there stood Criss. "Hey, Rayne." he said. "Hey." I said. I let him in and he hugged me. He kissed me too. He let me go and said, "So what are you doing?" "Nothing, really. Just watching a movie." I said. "Can I join you? I just got out of a really long meeting for our next Mindfreak episode." he said. "Sure." I said. We walked over to the couch and we sat down together. "So what's your next stunt?" I asked. "Well, it's the start of Season 5, which we're calling 'The 5 Lives of Criss Angel: Mindfreak' and the first episode is me being buried alive." he said. "You did that in the first season, though." I said. "Yeah, but not under 6 feet of heavy wet snow. That's why the first episode is called 'White Death'." he said. "White Death? Sounds creepy." I said. "Yeah, I guess." he said. "Well, you're probably gonna have to go through a lot of training, right?" I asked. "I always do, with any of my stunts." he said. "Oh, right." I said. Things were silent for a while until Criss said, "Are you worried?" "About you? A little." I said. He pulled me to him and said, "Relax, Rayne. You don't need to worry. Just do me one favor?" he said. "What?" I asked. "Just be there the day we pull off the stunt." he said. I was silent. Then I said, "I'll be there." He smiled and kissed me.
~The day of 'White Death'~
It was the day Criss was going to be buried under 6 feet of heavy snow. And I was worried all to hell. As everyone, including the crew and the Loyals who were watching, prepared to watch Criss find his way out of the heavy snow, he pulled me aside for a moment. He hugged and kissed me and said, "I love you, Rayne. Everything will be okay." "I know, Criss. And I love you, too." I said, and I buried my face into his chest. He kissed my forehead and said, "Well, let's do this." We walked back over to the area where everything was set. Criss laid down into the clear coffin and his wrists were handcuffed. They shut the coffin and lowered it into the hole. Then the crew started shoveling snow into the hole. Criss had a serious expression on his face as he was being buried. Then the bulldoser piled on more snow, and I couldn't see Criss anymore. As the minutes went by, the worst thing happened. The snow collapsed on top of Criss. I let out a small gasp, while the Loyals watching started yelling. Then one of the production members told everyone that Criss had said that if something like this were to happen, not to dig him out and let him escape. Soon the minutes drifted by, everyone waiting for Criss to surface. Then everyone watched as a hand poked out of the snow. Soon the rest of Criss was on the ground before us. He was short of air and gasping. The parametics had to revive him in front of everyone. I was really worried. I was crying a little too. Then a helicopter arrived and took Criss to a nearby hospital. The parametics came and took me with them to the hospital. Once I got there, I had to wait. Then a doctor came out and said, "Miss Delegrosso?" "Yes, how's Criss?" I asked. "He's fine. You can go see him now." the doctor said. "Thank you." I said. I walked down the hall and I found the room Criss was in. I saw him lying in the hospital bed, staring at the ceiling. I opened the door and said, "Criss?" He looked over at me and said, "Rayne. C'mere." he said. I walked over and I sat in a chair near the bed. He took my hand and said, "I heard you were crying a little when I came up." "A little, yeah." I admitted. "You didn't need to cry, Rayne. I'm alright now." he said, still holding my hand. "I know, but seeing you like that reminded me of the day my parents died."I said, and I felt tears streaming down my face. "Okay, c'mere." he said. I came closer and he hugged me. I started crying even more. He kissed my forehead and he said, "Shh. It's okay." Then I pulled away and said, "Thank you, Criss." He smiled and said, "Anything for you, Rayne."
-----------------------------------------
It had been a few weeks since Criss and the Mindfreak crew had filmed the first episode of '5 Lives'. I was still worried about how the rest of the season would go, even though it was only 5 episodes. Anyway, I was sitting in my room reading a book when someone rang the doorbell. I marked my page and got up to answer the door. I looked through the peephole in the door. There stood Criss, waiting for me to open the door. So I did. He smiled and said, "Hey, Rayne." He kissed me and then pulled away. "Hey, Criss." I said, and I let him inside. He sat on the couch first and then he pulled me into his lap. "So how's Rayne today?" he asked, holding me to him. "I'm okay. What about you?" I said. "I'm okay." he said. "When are you filming the second episode of Mindfreak?" I asked. "Um, Saturday." he said. I though of what day it was today. It was Tuesday. "That's awfully soon." I said. "Not really, if you think about it." he said. "Oh." I said. Then we just sat there in silence. Then Criss said, "Are you worried?" "A little." I said. He sighed and then he kissed me. The kiss was a sign of reassurance. When he pulled away he said, "Don't worry, Rayne. I'll be fine." "Yeah, I know." I said. "Can I ask you something?" Criss said. "What?" I asked. "Why are you so worried about me?" he asked. "Um, because I love you." I said, slightly confused. "I know that. I mean, you always seem worried. How come?" he said. "Oh. Well, it's something I got from my mom. She was always worried, too." I said. "Oh." he said. For a while, we just sat there in silence, both of us deep in thought.
~Saturday~
It was the day Criss was taping the second Mindfreak episode, called 'Death Field'. He was going to walk across a field of explosives, and he was going to trace the explosives using only his senses. I was so scared. Criss was wearing a heavy suit to protect him. J.D. and Dimitra were there with me, both as scared as me. Then it started. Soon it was midpoint, and Criss did something incredibly dangerous. He took the protective helmet he was wearing off. "Criss, put you helmet back on!" I yelled, and J.D. started yelling too. Time was running short, and soon the explosives would go off on their own. "Criss, your helmet!" I yelled, tears running down my face. I was shaking so bad. Then Criss ran the rest of the safe path. He crossed to us safely and the explosives went off. J.D. and Dimitra cheered. I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Criss pulled the heavy gloves off his hands and he hugged J.D. and Dimitra. Then he saw me, still in tears and shaking. He walked over to me and pulled me into a tight embrace. He kissed my forehead and said, "Shh, it's okay." I wasn't shaking anymore, but I was still crying a little. "It's okay." he repeated. "I know, Criss, I know." I said. I looked at him and said, "The next time you do something like this, leave your helmet on." He laughed. "I'm serious." I said. Criss wiped my tears away and said, "I know." I smiled and he kissed me. I was just so happy that Criss was okay. And now that he was in my life, I'm okay now, too.
