CH. 12- Survival
Adam and the other officers went back inside the storage to search for Criss.
“Let’s split up. This place is like a maze. He could be hiding anywhere. And be careful, he’s a dangerous man.”
Each cop took his one path inside the storage. They walked slowly but steadily, so Criss wouldn’t sense them coming. He might already have a trap ready for them. Adam heard a shot. He turned around but didn’t see anything. He yelled,
“Is everyone alright?”
His voice echoed throughout the building. Most of the cops replied “Yes, sir.”
Adam kept walking, and heard more shots. He immediately ran in the direction from where the shot was heard. He found two dead officers. He called the others through his radio. Some were still alive. But he kept hearing gun shots, and each time they came from different directions until there was complete silence. He tried to call the others but there was no response. He was sweating with the adrenaline rushing through his system. The place was so quiet that the only thing he could hear was his own breath.
“Freeze!”
Adam froze. He raised his hands in the air and dropped his gun on the floor.
“Well, it seems like I was the one who got caught in the end,” he said playfully.
“Shut up!” shouted Criss, as he held a gun from one of the dead cops in his hand.
He had a look of hatred on his face. Criss had never been so furious in his whole life. This time, he felt able to do whatever he wanted. Criss put the gun against Adam’s back.
“So, I think this is it, then.” Adam said, but he didn’t look scared at all.
Criss pulled the trigger, but there were no bullets left in the gun. Adam chuckled evilly. He made a quick 180 degree turn on Criss and hit Criss’s arm, making him drop his gun. Then he swiftly punched Criss on the face, and ran to where his gun was to pick it up. Criss recovered quickly from the punch on his face and jumped on Adam. Adam’s hand got so close to the gun, and he tried to reach for it. But Criss was chocking him. He really wanted to kill him and stop this whole mess as fast as possible. But Adam was able to grab the gun, and shoot backwards, hitting Criss’s shoulder.
The bullet didn’t get stuck in him, but rather just scratched him. Criss screamed in agony, and Adam was able to push him away and point his gun at Criss. Criss kicked his gun away from Adam’s hands, and then kicked him on the face. Then he tried to kick him a third time, but this time Adam was fast enough to catch Criss’s foot in the air, and pulled him towards himself, making Criss fall on his back. Adam got up and went to get his gun back, but Criss wasn’t done fighting. He punched Adam in the stomach, and as his anger built up, so did the strength of every punch with which he hit Adam. Criss punched Adam on face over and over again. He hit Adam so fast and so hard that Adam didn’t even have time to react and do anything. Criss gave him his final punch, and Adam fell on the floor. Criss was breathing hard like a wild beast. Adam was still alive and conscious, but he was so weak that he couldn’t move, Criss wiped some of the sweat from his face with his hand, and said,
“Stay.”
Criss left in a hurry. He sneaked out of the storage and took a police car and left.
Back inside the police car, Liliana was losing more and more hope as she got closer to the prison. Until one of the windows shattered, and the car began to zigzag on the road.
“Lily! Over here!” screamed Criss from the car next to theirs.
Liliana said to herself, “I knew it! I knew he would come rescue me!”
Criss began to crash his car against the police car to try to make it stray out of the road, but the cop backfired by doing the same and shooting his gun at Criss. Bullets began to hit every part of Criss’s car, but none of them hit Criss. It was like the death was on his side. Criss desperately looked for a gun in the drawer. He found one. He began to shoot the officer, and one of the bullets struck him in his arm, making his lose control of the car. Criss accelerated and made a wild turn in front of the police car to stop it.
The police car where Liliana was being transported crashed on Criss’s car. Criss hit himself on the forehead, but he was still alive. Liliana broke the window with her handcuffs and managed to get out of the car. She went to help get Criss who had gotten stuck in his car. Once he got out, the sound of sirens began to get closer and closer. Both of the cars were wrecked and useless. They were close to a bridge. They ran to it and jumped off of it into the water. The police cars drove by without noticing them. Once they were gone, Criss and Liliana came out of the water. They found a motored boat nearby. The hopped on it and turned it on.
“Criss, where are we going to go now?”
“This time, I have no idea. But one thing’s for sure: we’re getting away from these cops and out of this country.
And so they began to travel along the river, and disappeared in the mist.
