THIS WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORIES THAT I WROTE LAST YEAR DURING CHRISTMAS SEASON SO I THOUGHT I'D BRING IT OVER

It's a week before Christmas and trying to shop where I live makes me want to run for my life. I've always been this way for the past two Christmases. I don't have a lot of people to buy for. I never knew my dad, don't have any siblings that I know of and my mom is in a nursing home in Green Meadows I had to put her in there when she couldn't live by herself anymore. I visit her whenever I can but this year I don't know if I will. When I got home to my apartment I opened my mail box and saw I had the same old mail. Bills, You have won this much money gimmicks and a letter. It kind of threw me for a loop because when I looked at the return address I didn't know it . When I got in I got greeted by my cat Juliet. I adopted Juliet from a shelter in New York called Hugs and Kisses. The lady told me that her original owner was an English professor at NYU and had another cat which he named Hamlet but he was adopted by the person who was fostering him. I opened the envelope and saw it was from a family called Sarantakos.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I KNOW YOU'RE PROBABLY WONDERING WHY I'M WRITING THIS LETTER TO YOU IT'S BECAUSE OF YOUR CAT JULIET. I WAS THE ONE WHO ADOPT HER BROTHER HAMLET AND A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO HAMMIE NEARLY GOT RUN OVER BY A CAR WHEN HE ESCAPED FROM HIS CAT CARRIER WHEN I WAS BRINGING HIM TO HIS VET APPOINTMENT. AFTER NEARLY LOSING HIM IT GOT ME THINKING OF HIS FAMILY. I KNOW THE MAN WHO ORIGINAL OWNED HAMMIE HAS SINCE PASSED BUT THROUGH THE HELPFUL PEOPLE OF THE ANIMAL SHELTER THEY TOLD ME HAMMIE HAS A SISTER YOUR CAT SO I WAS WONDERING IF YOU WOULD BRING YOUR CAT TO THE ADDRESS ON THE ENVELOPE SO HAMMIE CAN HAVE A FAMILY REUNION OF SORT. I WOULD BE HONORED IF YOU DO

I went over to Juliet as she watched the snow fall. "What do you think Juliet you want to go meet you brother Hamlet?"I inquired. She put her back paws on my knees and licked my nose which made me giggled. "All right Juliet looks like we're going to Green Meadow to visit my mom and your brother Hamlet" I stated patting her.

In Green Meadows Criss was helping his brothers hang out some Christmas lights. "Costa they're not straight" Criss remarked. "Criss unless you want to levitate up here and do this shut up"Costa replied. "Criss stop giving Costa grief would you. I know you're perfectinist and everything"JD stated. Criss bent down to make snow ball and threw it at JD. "Hey" as Criss laughed. JD threw a snowball but missed. "Missed me" Criss remarked in a childish tone. "Oh you're going to get it Christopher" JD replied and ran after Criss but Criss ran into the backyard leaving Costa up a ladder. Inside the ladies were talking when a snowball hit the window getting their attention. They all went to the window to see Criss and JD throwing snowballs at each other. "They never grow up do they?" Lynn said. Dimitra got her coat and gloves on and went to help her father. Dimitra got her uncle in the shoulder. "Hey no fair two against one"Criss said. "Aim for the face Dimitra"her father remarked. "Hey Costa how about some help?" Criss called out. Costa just watched from the roof. "All right all right I give I give"Criss stated as Dimitra came over and put some snow down her uncle's back.

"All right boys get Costa down and come in"Their mother called out as they went to help Costa down. When they got to the front Costa shoveled some snow down on Criss making everyone laugh. "Thanks Costa" as Criss wiped the snow off of him. "Serve you right Criss come on" and they all went in. "Put your boots on the mat I don't want puddles on th carpet"Dimitra stated. After they did that Criss started upstairs. "I feel like a popiscle"Criss remarked. "Go thaw out in the shower". Dimitra loved it when her boys came home and this time Criss told her she had him untill the day after New Years which made Dimitra's day. After Criss finished showing and changing he came down and his mother gave him a hot chocolate. "Thanks" as Criss checked the mail and found a letter addressed to him. "Hey I got a response from that person who adopted Hammie's sister"Criss replied. Criss sat down as Hammie jumped onto his lap. "I'm surprise she even responsed to your idea to let Hammie have a family reunion of sorts"Costa said. "I think it's cute that Hammie has a sister out there" Dimi remarked scratching under Hammie's neck. Criss opened the letter.

DEAR MR. SARANTAKOS

I FIND WHAT YOU WROTE VERY INTERESTING. I'D BE HONORED TO COME AND VISIT WITH YOUR FAMILY AND LET MY JULIET SEE HER BROTHER HAMLET OR HAMMIE AS YOU CALL HIM. I'LL BE DOWN THERE PROBABLY TOMORROW AT NOON WITH JULIET. THANK YOU AGAIN

"Wow that's nice of her to do that". Criss just smiled as he read the letter over again. The next day I went to see my mom at her nursing home. The nursing home loves when I bring Juliet it makes the people there happy even when they don't have family to see them. "Look who's here it's Christine and Juliet"a man called out. "Hello Mr Roger" I stated giving him a kiss. I put my carrier on the ground and Juliet came out. "So what brings you to our neck of the woods Christine?" A nurse inquired. "I thought I'd see my mom and later I'm bringing Juliet to see her brother"I replied as Juliet went in between the old people's legs purring. "Well your mother is in her room I was just about to get her". In my mom's room she was brushing her hair. "Hi mom"I stated coming in. "Christine what are you doing here I wasn't expecting you untill Christmas Eve" giving me a hug. "Well you won't believe this but I got a letter from a family that adopted Juliet's brother Hamlet and a few months ago his owner came close to losing him so his owner wanted me to bring Juliet to see her brother"I stated. "That sounds so nice where's Juliet anyway?" she asked.

"In the living room come on let's go see her"I suggested and we went into the room. As we walked to the room Dimitra and Criss walked in. "Thanks for driving me here to see Anthena"Dimitra remarked. "It's my pleasure mom I'm glad you volunteer here"Criss replied. "There she is Anthena". "Dimitra how nice to see you"my mom said as they hugged. "Is this your daughter Christine those pictures you have of her don't do her justice" Dimitra replied. "Christine this is my friend Dimitra she comes to the home any time and tells us about her famous son". "Yea Criss Angel I remember you telling me mom"I said. "Why don't we go to the living area Juliet is probably getting her tail run over by the wheelchairs". Dimitra took my mom and Criss and I stood there. "You must be Criss Dimitra's son"I stated walking over. "What was your first clue?" Criss asked. "Whenever I visit my mom always say maybe I should ask Dimitra to set you with her famous son and beside I've met her other son so I kind of took a stab at it"I replied . Criss muffled a laugh. "Come on" and we went to the living room

When we got there Juliet was playing with a ball of yarn that one of ladies was using. It made me happy to see these people so happy including my mom as I watched her talk with Criss's mom. Criss walked over and bent down to pat Juliet. Juliet just laid still and purred her brains out as Criss stoke her. "She's beautiful I can see a bit of my cat in her" Criss remarked. "You have a cat too?" I asked sitting down. Criss got up. "Yea two a black cat and a tabby cat" Criss replied. "I find cats more fun than dogs"I stated. "I've got a couple of more pets in Las Vegas two mice, two doves, and a carney" Criss remarked. "And a partridge in a pear tree" I said snickering and it made Criss snicker too. Dimitra came over and told Criss they had to go. "Oh yea nice to meet you Christine" Criss remarked as we shook hands. "Nice to meet you too Criss" as they left.

"What a nice person Christine is" Criss said. "Maybe I should set you up with her" Dimitra suggested. "Mom we've had this discussion more than I care to admit I'm not ready to date anyone my heart is mending after my break up with Holly" Criss replied as he opened the door to his car. "I'm just saying Christopher you're not getting any younger-". "Mom I love you but I'm not in the mood to talk about this for the thousandth time so please drop it" Criss asked as he closed the door. When they got back Dimi was brushing Hammie as Costa and JD were doing some dishes. "How was the retirement home?" JD asked when he saw them come in. "Not bad Criss even met a woman there who was visiting her mother" Dimitra replied as Criss hung up their jackets. "Really!" Costa remarked. "Don't start Costa" Criss said. "Uncle Criss what do you think of Hammie I gave him a bath and brushed him so he could look nice for his sister" Dimi stated. "He looks handsome" Criss said. Then JD heard a car pull up and looked outside. He saw me coming out with a black bag on my shoulder. "I think she's here" JD said as Dimi went to the window. "She's pretty Uncle Criss". Criss looked out and couldn't believe who it is.

Outside I made sure I had the right address. "All right Juliet time for a family reunion" as I paid the driver. "You are right Dimi she is pretty. Do you think she'd mind if I ask her out" Costa said. Criss closed the curtain. "Come on let's be nice she's probably nervous" Criss stated. I walked to the door as I looked at the curtain and saw a tabby cat with a little red bow around his collar staring out the window. Juliet poked her head out and the tabby cat at the window put his paw on the window like he was saying hi to us. "I guess that's your brother Juliet" I remarked. Juliet meowed and I heard a muffled meow from the cat in the window. I knocked on the door and a girl about seventeen or eighteen answered. "Hello you must be Juliet's owner I'm Dimitra Dimi for short". "Hi I'm Christine" I replied. "Come on in" as she opened the door. I came in and I put Juliet's carrier down as Dimi took my coat. "I see you've met my daughter I'm JD" he stated as we shook hands. "Nice to meet you I'm Christine". Then Juliet poked her head out.

"Dad look Juliet looks like Hammie" Dimi remarked patting her head. "My brothers and my mother will be right down. Would you like something to drink?" JD inquired. "Got any hot tea it feels like minus ten degrees outside" I asked as I unzippered the bag. Juliet jumped out as she cleaned her paws. "Milk and sugar all right"JD asked. "That's good" as I hung up the bag. "Let me get my uncle's cat". Dimi went to the window and brought Hammie out of hiding. She put him on the floor and Hammie walked over to Juliet. "Meet you brother Hamlet Juliet" I said. They went face to face and sniffed each other. "Please have a seat" JD stated as he gave her the tea. "Thank you". "Look there playing with each other dad" Dimi remarked as they chased a red ball on the ground. "You guys ever coming down?" JD called up. "Be right down" Costa replied. "It's just like Uncle Costa and Uncle Criss to vanish when company comes" Dimi replied as JD snickered. "They've been like that since they were old enough to walk Dimi" JD stated as I muffled a laugh.

"Do you have any brothers or sisters?"Dimi asked me. "No I'm an only child do you?" I asked. "Nope same as you only child," Dimi replied. "Grandma our guests are here". I turned to the stairs and coming down is my mother's friend. "Dimitra oh my god what a surprise" I replied giving her a hug. "I'm just as surprised as you are Christine. I can't believe I never figure it out that Juliet's Hammie's sister" she remarked. "Where's Criss?" I asked. "Hiding probably Christopher Costa you spending the day up there or what" JD called up. "Don't give up your day job JD" Criss replied. "Christopher Costa don't be rude we have company and beside this is your idea" Dimitra called up the stairs. "I'm coming" Criss said. Criss came down and so did Costa. "Hey Criss nice to see you again" I stated. "Yea this is my brother Costa" and I shook his hands. "Nice to meet you". "I see Hammie having fun with his sister" Criss said as he saw Hammie and Juliet looking out the window together. "Juliet loves looking outside especially when it snows" I remarked.

"How long have you had Juliet?" Dimitra inquired as everyone sat down. "Ten years on Christmas. I got her when I moved here from Florida. I got lonely so I decided to go down to The Hugs and Kisses adoption Center and adopt a cat. Looking at all of them I couldn't decided than I saw her rolled up looking lonely as I felt. The lady told me her brother was just adopted so she was missing him. When I took her out and just hugged and patted her she perked right up so I adopted her right there" I remarked. "I remember fostering Hammie than I got a call from the lady who ran the place telling me a family wanted to adopt Hammie. I was so heart broking when I gave him back. A couple of weeks later my mom came to visit me in Las Vegas. She told me to close my eyes so I did. When I opened them there was Hammie on my lap. My mom told me the people who wanted to adopt Hammie couldn't do it so mom filled out the paper work and now Hammie belongs to me" Criss stated. As the day wore on I was having a nice time with them and so was Juliet playing with her brother. Before I knew it my taxi came back to get me.

"Well it seems my taxi's here so it was nice to meet you". "It was Christine" JD stated . Dimi picked up Juliet and put her in the bag for me as Hammie walked over and put his paw on the carrier. "Oh look Hammie doesn't want his sister to go" Costa remarked. I said good-bye to everyone and left. Hammie tried to go but Criss picked him up. "Sorry Hammie you can't go outside" Criss said. Hammie just watched as the taxi left.

As the cab took me and Juliet home I realized that Hammie and Juliet almost looked like twins expect Juliet had a little scar on her nose for when she got into a fight with another cat when she was a baby. At the house Criss noticed Hammie kept looking out the window. "What's wrong with Hammie?"Costa inquired. Criss got up and went over to the cat. "What's wrong you miss your sister?"Criss inquired as he patted Hammie. When the cat turned to Criss he looked at the face. "What's wrong Christopher?" Dimitra asked. Criss picked up the cat and checked something out. "Just as I thought we got a bit of a mix up here" Criss replied putting the cat down. "What do you mean Uncle Criss?" Dimi asked. "We got the cats mixed up Christine took Hammie and we've got Juliet" Criss replied. "Are you sure?" Costa inquired. "Costa I can actually tell a girl cat from a guy cat if you catch my drift"Criss replied. "What do we do now how do we trade back the cats?"JD asked.

"Christopher do you still have her address?"his mother inquired. "Yea" Criss stated. "Why don't we go to her address and switch cats?" JD suggested. "Let's go" as Criss picked up Juliet. When I got home Juliet was whining which wasn't like her she loved being carried around. When I put down the bag and opened it she jumped out like a lightning bolt. "You must need to use your litter box" I said as I put my coat and the carrier away. She didn't go to her litter box she went to the door pawing at it and meowing. "You know the rules Juliet you can't leave the apartment unless you're in the bag" I stated as I went to the kitchen. I got her some food and put it down. She walked over to it and smelled it than walked back to the door. "What's the matter it's your favorite" I stated. Then she curled up at the door which was strange for her. "All right what's going on here Juliet you trying to tell me you want to visit your brother again" as I patted her.

When the cat looked up I noticed the scar was gone. "I guess you and your sister are twins after all" I stated. A knock came to the door so I put Hammie in my room so he wouldn't get out and answered the door. At the door was Criss and JD. "I think we've got a bit of a mix up with our felines" Criss said. Underneath his arm is Juliet. "I just realized it myself a few second ago let me get Hammie"I replied. I opened the door and Hammie came speeding out. "Close the door Criss!!"I yelled. It was too late Hammie went running down the stairs like a bullet than Juliet scratched Criss and he let go of Juliet. "JD catch them before they go out the door!!". We all ran down the stairs after the cats but the cats were too quick and got out. We all ran out the door but they disappeared. "Where did they go?" JD asked. "JD go up the street Criss down the street I'll go in the alley" I stated and we all went our ways.

As we went down the road looking for the cats in the back of my mind I wondered if I was going to be blamed for losing the one cat that's probably has a fan base bigger than Garfield and 9 lives cat put together. "Juliet where are you baby" I called out. Down the road JD checked some alleys. "Hammie Juliet where are those two" he mumbled. "Hamlet Juliet come here" Criss called out. I was about to go back to the apartment when I noticed Hammie sitting in the middle of an alley. "Christopher JD I found Hamlet!!". They came running and saw Hammie sitting there. We started to walk towards him but Hammie ran into an abandon building. "I think he wants us to follow him" JD remarked. "JD stay out here just in case and Christine and I will go in". We went in and the place was dark and cold. "Hammie where are you boy?" Criss called out. "Juliet come on sweetie mommy's cold" I said.

"You consider your cat family" Criss remarked a little wigged out by it considering he thinks the same way about Hammie. "I love Juliet like she's my daughter she keeps my sprits up when I'm lonely especially around this time of year" I replied looking around. "Get blue around the holidays?"Criss said. "Look at it from my point of view Criss my mother is in a retirement community because she can't leave by herself, I've got no brothers or sisters that I know of to be with and to top it all off my father left my mother a few days before I came into this world"I replied. "Hamlet come on this isn't a game it's time to come home" Criss called out. Then I heard a meow. "Over there by that old chair". We ran over and found Juliet laying on the chair with Hammie down on the ground. "Very funny you two now it's time to get out of here". I started to pick up Juliet but she jumped out of my hands and ran off than Hammie followed. "I swear I'm going to send Hammie back to Vegas if he keeps this up," Criss remarked as we followed them.

As we followed the cats Criss tripped over something falling to the ground. ":mad:" Criss stated. "You all right Criss?". "I think so" as I helped him up. Then we heard Juliet meow. "I think they're over here". Criss limped over and we found them with two other cat. A brown and white patched cat and an orange tabby cat. "I think our cats found some friends" Criss remarked as I went over to them. "That's not all Christopher the orange tabby cat's pregnant"I replied. If this wasn't enough Juliet went off. "Juliet Criss you stay there I'll get Juliet". Criss yelled for JD to come in. I followed Juliet to a corner of the building and what I found nearly knocked me to the ground. "I can't believe Juliet and Hammie found these cats" JD said patting the pregnant one. "Well we should bring them to a shelter or something those kittens aren't going to survive in this building with the weather being so cold" Criss suggested. "I'll go get the car and we'll bring them to that shelter you got Hammie at they're about a mile from here" JD suggested. "Guys that's not all". I came over and wrapped in my jacket is a three months old baby. Criss looked like his eyes were about to pop out. "Who would leave a baby here?"JD asked looking at him.

"I don't know but it needs a change my jacket's wet"I stated. JD took off his jacket and put it on the ground. I put the baby on it. "What are we going to use for a diaper?" Criss asked. "Do you know how make a box of huggies appear from thin air?" JD asked Criss as I tried not to laugh at the joke. "Yea it's called a convience store JD" Criss replied. "One of you guys give me your shirt we'll use it as a temp one until we can get some diapers for the baby" I suggested. The guys looked at each other. "Paper rock scissors" They did it and Criss lost. "Sorry rock beats scissors Crissy" JD replied. Criss took off his shirt and gave it to me. I took off the old one. "Looks like we got a boy" I said. "Watch yourself baby boy do like to shower. Reminds me of dad trying to change you Criss I think he wore a raincoat when he had to change you as a baby" JD remembered.

"Thanks for that trip down memory lane JD" Criss stated ready to leave his brother there. "There we go now why don't we get the two cats down to the shelter, grab our own, and take this little baby to a hospital to be checked out". JD took the two cats we found Criss grabbed Hammie and Juliet while I took the baby. When we came out Costa, little Dimi and Dimitra showed up. "What are you guys doing here?" JD asked putting the two cats in the car. "We were wondering what was taking so long?" Costa inquired. "It seems the cats got lose so we had to find them" JD stated. Then Dimi looked inside and saw the two cats. "How cute Juliet and Hammie found two cats". "And the orange one going to be a mommy soon" JD added. "Where's Criss and Christine" Costa asked. "Right here," Criss remarked coming out with Hammie and Juliet. "Costa a little help here". Costa grabbed the cats as Criss leaned against the wall. "You all right Christopher?" Dimitra inquired coming over.

"My ankle just hurts I fell when I was looking for Hammie and Juliet" Criss replied. "Here lean on me" which Criss did as she got him to the car to sit. Then I came out with the baby. "I see the whole Sarantakos family is here" I said. "Christine is that a baby in your arms?"Costa asked. "No Costa it's a doll of course it's a baby"JD replied. "Yea Juliet and Hammie must of heard him in the building and stayed with him to keep him warm" I replied. "Mom why don't you take Criss and Christine to the hospital to have Criss's ankle checked out and the baby. Dimi, Costa why don't we take the two cats and Juliet and Hammie" JD suggested. "All right" and we all left in different directions. As we drove to the hospital I kept the baby warm. "I can't believe someone left a defensiveless little infant in a building like that" Dimitra said. "I know he's so adorable" I stated. "Christine I just got a weird thought in my head those two cats we found do you think they were in there watching over that baby keeping it warm and stuff" Criss suggested.

"Maybe when Juliet and Hammie got out they must of heard the baby too and decided to help the other two cats and the baby. Do you think that's why Hammie was standing there in the alley so we could find them" I thought. "Well we're here let me help you out Christopher" Dimitra said. "I'll get a wheelchair Dimitra" I stated. At the desk two of the nurses was talking. "I've never seen it so dead in here" she said. "Wouldn't be cool if Criss Angel came in I hear he's home for the holidays". "Excuse me can I have some help my friend hurt his ankle and he's having a hard time walking" I asked. The nurse grabbed a wheelchair and almost died when she saw who it was. "Here let me help you" helping Criss into the wheelchair as Dimitra picked up the baby. "We also found a baby in an abandon building too" I stated. "Well come on in and we'll check him out and you friend here"

At the house Lynn was cleaning up when Costa and Dimi came in. "Hey guys where's the rest of the clan?" she asked. Then JD came in with two carriers. "Costa you forgot one"JD called out. "I'll get her dad" Dimi stated and went back outside. "JD what's with the two carriers?". "Long story" he said hanging up his coat. "Got a short version?"she asked. "All right when Criss and I went to return Juliet Hammie and Juliet escaped so we found them in an abandon building which we found two more cats and one was pregnant". Dimi came in with the carrier. "Mommy I get to foster the mom cat until her kittens come" Dimi remarked. "So what are you doing with Juliet?"Lynn asked. "That's the interesting part in the building Juliet lead Christine to a three month old baby boy"JD stated . "Someone abandon a little baby in a cold building"Lynn stated shocked. "So mom brought Criss and Christine with the baby to the hospital to have it looked at" JD said. Then Hammie started to meow.

"I'm going to let Hammie out before he started yowling" Costa remarked and let them out. All of a sudden Lynn started to sneeze. "You all right Lynn?"Costa asked. "No I'm allergic to cats" as she wiped her eyes. "Dimi why don't you bring the cats upstairs". "Come on Dimi I'll help you" Costa remarked picking up Hammie and Juliet. At the hospital Criss was in a room with his mom while I was in the next room with the baby. "Well Christopher long time no see" The doctor remarked coming in. "Hey Doctor Smitty I'm surprised you haven't retired yet" Criss replied. "Well so what happened this time trying a new demostration out" he asked joking a little. "I wish I was looking for my cat Hammie in an abondon building I tripped over something and landed face first on the ground" Criss stated. The doctor took a look at Criss's leg and ankle. "Well your ankle looks swollen and so does you knee I'm going to send you to get some x-ray just to make sure you didn't break anything"the doctor suggested. "Thank you doctor"Dimitra stated as the doctor went to the next room where I was playing with the baby.

"So this is the abondon baby you and Criss found today". "Yea" as the doctor took a look at him. "He seems all right a little under weight for his age group. I'm going to have the nurse draw some blood and fix him a bottle" and the doctor left. When Criss got back from x-ray I was standing outside the room. "How's the baby doing?"he asked. "Good they're doing a full work up on him and they're going to call social services for him too"I replied. "I just can't believe someone left that baby in there. If we didn't find him he might of died of hungry or something worse"Criss stated. "So what did the doctor say about you?" I asked. "I might pulled some tendons in my knee and twisted my ankle" he said. "Better your leg than your head"I replied as Criss snickered. Then my phone went off and saw it was JD. "How in god's name did your brother get my number?" I asked. "Caller ID maybe"Criss replied. "Hello JD". "I hope you don't mind is my clust of a brother next to you?"he asked. "Your brother"I stated giving him the phone. "Hello"he said. "Criss we've got a problem Lynn's allergic to cats". "Are you kidding me?"Criss said. "No her doctor ran some tests on her and found out she's allergic to cats so we need to put Hammie some where before I have to take my wife to the hospital" JD replied. "Where would you like me to take him. The house is under repairs that's why mom and I are staying with you and Costa's apartment complex doesn't allow pets" Criss mentioned. "Do you think Christine could take him?"JD thought.

"JD I can't ask her to do that I just met her today". "Please Christopher Lynn can't take the cats" JD remarked. "All right I'll ask," and hung up. "Christine can I ask a favor of you?" Criss asked. "What's that Christopher?". "It seems JD's wife has just found out she's allergic to cats and since Costa's complex doens't allow pets do you think you can take Hammie to your apartment to stay for a while" he inquired. "Why not Juliet may like having her brother around while I'm at work"I stated. "Thanks you're a life savoir,"Criss remarked. Then the doctor came over. "So what's the verdict?". "Well the baby is fine a little anemic but fine but for you Criss you twisted your ankle and pulled some tendons in your knees"he replied. "Am I going to need surgery?"Criss inquired. "No but you're going to have to stay off your leg as much as possible or you may need surgery" the doctor replied. "All right doc thanks,"Criss stated and the doctor left. "Looks like I'm going to be sleep on the couch for the next six weeks".

As we drove to the house Criss was sitting in the back with his leg up with a pair of crutchers. "Thank you for driving Christine I forgot my driving glasses" Dimitra remarked. "It's no problem Dimitra how are you doing back there Criss?" she asked. "Fine just watch out for potholes" he replied. At the house JD and Costa were playing cards. "So what are you going to do with the pregnant cat since Lynn's allergic?" Costa asked. "Lynn said if we keep her in Dimi's room she'll be fine"he stated. "And Christine is going to take Hammie for a while" Costa said. "That's what Criss said"he replied. Then they heard a car pull up. Costa got up and saw it was Dimitra's car. "Well it looks like Criss is on crutchers" as I helped him out. Costa opened the door and Dimitra came in. "Thank you Costa". "Come on gimpy" Costa called out. "Watch it or I'm going to stick this where the sun don't shine Costa"Criss said as he came in. "So what did you do this time to your leg?" JD asked as Criss sat down.

"He sprained his ankle and pulled some tendons in his knee. If Criss stays off his leg as much as he can Criss may not need surgery on his knee"I replied. "Thanks again for taking Hammie"JD stated. "It's no problem where are they?". "We put them in the bathroom"Costa said. JD went to the bathroom and the cats ran out like bullets. He looked at the back of the door. "Looks like I'm going to need a new door too. The cats used it as a scratching post"JD remarked. "Bad Juliet"I stated. Hammie jumped over to Criss. "Come here you. Listen you're going to be staying with your sister for a few days so I'll see you soon" and gave Hammie a kiss on his head. Costa brought out the carriers and I put Juliet in one as Costa picked up Hammie and put him in the other. "Come on Christine I'll drive you home" Costa replied. "I'll talk to you guys later hope you feel better Criss and stay off that leg" and we left. The next day when I woke up I saw Juliet asleep at the window but Hammie was at the door. "Come here Hammie I know you miss your owner but it's just for a few days so don't worry" patting him which he liked.

A knock came to the door so I put Hammie in the bathroom just in case. I opened the door and standing there was Dimitra. "Dimitra what are you doing here?" I asked inviting her in. "I thought I'd bring you some cat food so Hammie doesn't eat you out of house and home"she replied giving me the bag. "Thanks" as I shut the door and let Hammie out. "Christine Christopher told me you don't have a lot of family" she stated. "Only my mom and Juliet" I replied patting her. "Well tomorrow we're going to church and we would love for you to come with us"she offered. "I don't know Dimitra" I stated. "Just think about it"she remarked. Dimitra picked up Hammie and gave him a kiss and a hug. "That's from Christopher". I went over and took Hammie as Dimitra left.

At the house everyone was getting ready for church but Criss was thinking of staying home. "Come on uncle Criss you have to go it won't be the same with out you"Dimi stated. "I'd slow you guys down with my knee and ankle" Criss replied. "Criss we can't leave you here alone mom would start worrying that you'd fall and hurt yourself" Costa suggested. "Guys I turned like 42 a week ago I can stay by myself I'm not four" Criss stated. "What they mean Christopher if you fall or something you could injury yourself more than you'd have to have the surgery and I don't want that beside I asked Christine to join us" his mother replied. "All right for you mom I'll go but I'm going to need some help" Criss remarked looking at Costa and JD. At the church I waited outside even thou it was cold. Then I saw a two cars pull in and park. The doors opened and it was JD with his wife, his daughter, and Dimitra in the back.

"Christine you made it" Dimitra replied as I walked over. "Thanks for the invite"I said. "I see Costa got here in one piece with Criss"Lynn stated as her daughter chuckled. I walked over as Costa was trying to help Criss. "Come on will you". "Hey you try not to put weight on your right leg and see how hard it is to get out of a car"Criss replied. "Costa go in with your brother I'll help the injuried" I stated. "Have fun" and Costa left. "I knew I should of gone in JD's car I feel like a sauage in here trying to move. I got into the front seat and pulled in both seat. "Hold on Criss" as I walked over to his side. Criss was sitting on the edge as I grabbed his crutchers. "All right lean on me as you get out". "Hope I don't hurt you"he stated. Criss got up and leaned on me as he used his crutchers. "You got it" I asked. "Got it" and I moved as Criss balanced himself.

"Thanks" and we started towards the chruch. "So how's Hammie doing?" Criss asked. "He missing you but he's been good"I replied. "Yea the house isn't the same with out Hammie. Have you heard anything about that baby you found?" he asked. "He was put into foster care a couple of hours ago I was-never mind". Criss stopped as he leaned against the railing. "What?"he asked. "I was thinking of maybe adopting him but there's other people that probably want a baby like Joseph"I stated. "You named him?"Criss said a little taken back. "Well it was strange just calling the baby him so I gave him my grandfather's name Joseph" I stated smiling. "Interesting come on let's go in before my mom starts freaking out" and we went in. After the service we were all coming out when we saw a homeless woman standing there. I walked over. "Can I help you?"I asked. "Yes I'm looking for two people that took my baby". "What do they look like?" Costa inquired. As she described the people Costa looked at me as I looked at Criss.

"You just described her and my brother"Costa replied pointing to Criss and I. She looked at me than all of a sudden she throws herself on me and starts to choke me. "WHERE'S MY BABY WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM!!" she exclaimed as Costa tried to get her off of me. JD and Criss came down and helped. When they finally got her off of me she went after Criss and knocked him to the ground. She grabbed one of Criss's crutchers and hit him in the bad leg. "WHERE'S MY SON WHERE'S MY SON!!!" she yelled. JD grabbed her as I went over to Criss. "You all right?". Criss said nothing as he held his leg. "Someone call the police" Costa remarked. "And an amblunce" Criss replied as he layed there in pain

At the hospital we all waited in a room while they looked over Criss and the crazy woman who assaulted Criss and I. "Can you believe what that girl did to Criss?" JD said. "I have a feeling Criss maybe going under the knife"Costa remarked. I sat next to Dimitra. "You all right Dimitra?"I asked. "I'm just worried about Christopher why hasn't the doctor come out to talk to us" she replied getting up. Then Criss came out on the crutchers. As everyone gave Criss hugs and kisses something in my mind was telling me something wasn't right. "I'll go get the car"JD stated and everyone followed but I stopped Criss. "Christopher I saw what that woman did to you and I saw the pain you were in. Are you hiding something from your family?"I asked. "No"he remarked. "Criss I don't tell many people this but I can tell when someone is BSing and right now my meter is going off" looking at him. "All right I need surgery but they want me to have it on Christmas Eve so I signed out ama" Criss remarked. "So you rather be in pain for the rest of your life than have an operation on your knee"I inquired. "Listen I'll have my knee operating on just not now" and he went outside. The next day I brought Hammie and Juliet to the home. When I got there I saw Criss's mom playing cards with my mom.

"Christine I thought you were coming later" my mom said as I let the cats out. "I need to talk to Dimitra for a few minutes with out her family around her"I replied. "What's wrong?"she asked. "Let's go outside for a second"I said. She grabbed her coat and we went outside. "So what's wrong?". "It's Christopher he's lying to you and your family. He needs surgery to repair the tear in his knee but he won't do it". Dimitra was shocked. "Are you serious?"she said. "Dimitra he told me when I called him on it. He doesn't want to do it because it will be on Christmas Eve but if Criss doesn't get this surgery he may end up doing more damage to his knee"I stated. Dimitra gave me a hug. "Thank you Christine" and she left as I walked back in. When I came in I saw Juliet sitting in a chair next to my mom. "Trying to teach Juliet how to play Gin"I asked as my mom chuckled. "Where did Dimitra go?" she asked as I pulled up a seat. "Last night Criss lied to his family and you know me I can spot a liar from fifty paces so I told Dimitra that Criss does need surgery. At the house Criss was in the kitchen having something to eat with Costa and JD. "I talked to the doctor about that lady that went nuts on Christine and I she's bi-polar and off her meds"Criss stated taking a sip of his juice. "She must of went off of them when she was pregnant probably so she wouldn't harm the child" Costa suggested. "Calling Dr Sarantakos" JD said jokely. Criss muffled a laugh. "So Criss you didn't say much about your knee what did the doctor say about it"JD asked. Before Criss could get a syabble out the door opened and Dimitra walked in. "Hey mom what are you doing back so soon?" JD inquired. "JD Costa I need to talk to Christopher alone for a minute" she asked. "Someone's in trouble"JD remarked as they left the room. "So what's up mom?"Criss asked as his mother hung up her coat. "I saw Christine at the home today and she told me something that I'm surprised you did to us Christopher,"she replied sitting down.

Criss grabbed his crutchers and got up. "Christopher why would you lie to us?". "I just didn't want to ruin Christmas eve mom. I just wanted a normal day with my family not end up in an operating room" he remarked. "Christopher I know you meant well but you're putting your career on the line if you don't get this fix"she stated. "I was going to get it fix after the holidays mom I swear" Criss said. She got up and went over to him. "Christopher I want you to call your doctor and tell him you've changed your mind and you want to take care of this before it gets worse. Consider it your Christmas gift to me" she stated. Criss could never say no to his mother so he agreed. "Thank you Christopher" and gave him the phone to call

Back at the apartment I was watching television when my phone rang. "Hello". "Hello Christine it's Dimitra" she remarked. "Hi what can I do for you?". "I wanted to thank you for ratting Christopher out about his knee. He talked to his doctor and he's going to have surgery on Christmas Eve"she said. "You're welcome Dimitra"I stated and hung up. After I hung up Hammie moewed. "Don't you start Hamlet"I said as he walked off. The next day was Christmas Eve and Criss was in his hospital room bored out of his mind. I don't think I've been so bored in my life. What is taking so long he thought. Downstairs JD was filling out some forms when I walked in. "Christine what are you doing here?"he asked surprised to see me. "I'm surprise my mom didn't tell your mom I bring Juliet to the children's ward. I hate seeing kids so upset that Santa may not find them in a hospital" she remarked. "Well if you want to Criss is upstairs probably bored out of his skull" he replied. "His surgery's moved back". "Yea car accident on the freeway both operating room are packed" JD replied. "Well I'll go see him" and left. When I got up to the floor Jillian was taking Criss's vitals.

"Not bad for a forty-two year old you're in great health" she stated. "Expect for a bum knee when do you think my surgery will be?"Criss inquired. "Let me check" and she left. "All ready flirting with the nurses Criss"I said. Criss turned his head to the window. "I'm not talking to you. You ratted me out to my mother" he stated. "Criss you sound like you're eight years old"I replied. "If you didn't rat me out to my mother I wouldn't be spending Christmas Eve in a hospital room"he remarked. I put my bag down and went to the other side of Criss's bed. "Christopher I know that you're ticked at me but I did it because I care" I said. "Yea about ruining my holiday"he replied not looking at me. "Fine be tick than you won't see what I brought for you". Criss's curiosity hit him and turned over. "What do you have?"he asked. I closed the door and opened my bag. As soon as I unzippered it Hammie popped out and jumped onto Criss's bed. "Hamlet I miss you" patting him.

"He missed you too so I thought I'd bring him down to see his master before you went into surgery" I remarked as Juliet popped her head out. "Why do you have Juliet with you?" Criss asked. "I bring Juliet up to the children's ward so I thought I'd sneak Hammie in to see you". "Thanks Christine this really is a good gift for me". Then the nurse came in as I put Hammie back in the bag. "Time to go Criss" she stated as some ordeals came in. "See you later Criss"I remarked as Hammie meowed. "See yea later" and they left. Criss woke up as his eyes focused. "Christopher" a voice said. "Mom" he said softly. He turned his head and saw his mom sitting there with JD and Costa there too. "How long-". Dimitra put her fingers on Criss's lips. "Don't talk your throat is raw after they removed the breathing tube" she said "Save your strength bro" Costa stated. Criss mouthed thank you as he fell back to sleep

"Let him sleep come on" and they left. When they got home I was sitting there with the cats. "Christine how long have you been here you look frozen" Dimitra stated putting her coat over me. "I didn't know where else to go" I muttered as the cats moewed. "Come on let's get you guys inside" and they brought me in as Costa grabbed the cats. When they came in JD put on some tea. "Just sit right here sweetie Costa get me a blanket,"Dimitra stated. As Costa went into the bedroom tears started to fall from my face and I just started to cry.

Dimitra held me as I cried. "What's wrong?". "My mom passed away in her sleep a few minutes ago I've been walking around in a daze before I knew it I came here" as JD gave Dimitra a paper towel to wipe my tears. "It's all right sweetie" as Costa gave her the blanket. "What's happened?"Costa inquired. "Christine's mom passed away"JD stated. "That's gotta hurt". "I'm going to bring the cats upstairs before Lynn and Dimi get home"JD said giving Costa the tea. Costa gave the tea to his mom. "Here drink this it will warm you up" and I took a sip of it. "Thank you"I replied as JD came down. "Anybody hungry?" he asked changing the subect. "I'm a little hungry" his mother replied. "I could eat too"Costa added. "Christine would like a sandwich or some soup?" JD asked. "A sandwich would be nice"I replied. "Christine if you would like to you can take a shower and get out of those cold clothes I think you'd fit into some of Lynn's clothes if you would like?"JD offered. "Thanks maybe the steam will clear my head" as I walked to the bathroom.

"That was nice of you JD"Dimitra remarked. "I'm going to go upstairs and grab some of Lynn's clothes for her to change into" and JD went upstairs. When he got upstairs he could hear one of the cats meowing. Downstairs Dimitra and Costa were making sandwiches as I came out in a robe. "I hope Criss doens't mind I borrowed his robe"I replied. "You look better in it than Criss does" as I chuckled. "Thanks Costa I needed a laugh" and gave him a kiss. "I just realized Christmas isn't going to be the same without Criss" Costa said. "I got an idea why don't you guys go to the hospital and open gifts there with Criss in his room" I suggested. "That's a wonderful idea Christine" Dimitra replied with a smile. "Mom, Christine, Costa come up here!!". We all went upstairs and in Dimi's room the mother cat was cleaning her newborn kittens off. "Oh my god look at them all"Costa remarked.

"That one reminds me of Juliet" I stated. "Look at the black one it looks like it's wearing a mask"JD said. "JD how did you know this was going on?"Dimitra inquired. "When I came up to get the clothes Hammie was moewing when I opened the door I saw one of the kitten coming out". "Little D is going to be upset that she missed this" Costa remarked. As we stood there Juliet came over to me and started to pur as she went in and out my legs. I picked her up and gave her a kiss. "Now I remember why I got you" as she licked my nose.

At the hospital Criss was looking out the window watching the snow fall. "Hi" a voice said. Criss turned his head and saw a little girl about six standing there. "Hello there what are you doing here?" Criss asked. "I'm looking for Santa Claus my mommy said he's coming but I don't think so since I'm in the hospital" she remarked holding on to her teddy bear. Criss smiled at her as the nurse came over. "Sandy what are you doing out of bed I'm sorry Criss"the nurse stated. "It's no problem Denise I was awake anyway" Criss replied smiling. "Come on Sandy you know Santa Clause won't come if you're not in bed asleep"the nurse said. "Bye bye" Sandy reamrked waving good-bye. "Bye Sandy" Criss replied waving back. At the house I fell asleep on the couch. "Poor kid losing the only parent she ever knew" Lynn stated. "Yea she was just in shock when we came back from visiting Criss" Costa remarked. "How is Criss any way?" Lynn inquired. "Good the surgery went very well" Dimitra replied. Then Lynn started to sneeze. "Where are the cats?"she asked. "In Dimi's room" JD replied. "I don't think so look on the couch" Costa remarked. They looked and standing there was Juliet and coming down the stairs was Hammie. "Dimitra come down stairs and get Hammie and Juliet" JD called out. Dimi came down.

"Sorry I must of not shut the door tight enough come on you two" she stated. She got Hammie but when she went for Juliet she hissed. "Dimi why don't you leave Juliet down here I guess she wants to be near her owner" Dimitra said. Then Hammie meowed. "I guess Hammie misses Criss too" Costa added. "Come on Hammie you'll see Uncle Criss soon" and they back upstairs. After Dimi left Juliet jumped down to where I was sleeping and snuggled next to me.

When I woke up I saw the Christmas Tree shining bright infront of the window as snow layed on the ground. I saw Juliet was next to me. I looked around and saw a note on the table. It was from Dimitra.

Went down to put some flowers on John's grave we'll be right back to go to the hospital to see Christopher

I got up and took a shower. After that I went to look at some of Criss's clothes. The door opened and Dimitra and the rest of the family came in. "I can't believe it snowed last night" JD replied hanging up his coat. "I remember Christopher would always wish for a white christmas I guess he finally got his wish" Dimitra replied. "I wonder where Christine is?"Costa inquired. I came out wearing a pair of Criss's pants with one of his shirts. "Wow you look good in Criss's clothes"JD remarked. "I hope he doesn't mind"I replied smiling. "Do you want to join us when we go visit Criss?"Costa asked. "I have to go to the hospital anyway they have an afternoon Christmas luncheon for the kids where they get presents people have donated" she remarked. "Well let's gather up the present and go" Dimi said. At the hospital Criss was in his room just flipping through the channel when a nurse came in with a wheelchair.

"Guess what Mr Sarantakos the doctor is going to let you be mobile but you have to be in a wheelchair for it". "Thanks I'm ready to lose my mind if I don't get out of here" he replied. "But first you need some clean clothes and your family dropped off some". The nurse helped Criss put on some plaid sweats and a sweatshirt. She helped Criss up and down in to the wheelchair than put up his leg. Criss bit his lip a little. "You all right?" she asked. "Yea it just hurts a little" Criss stated. As she wheeled him out of the room Criss just thought of his family opening gifts as his just sat under the tree. This is the worest Christmas since dad passed I've ever had Criss thought. Then Criss looked up and his eyes just opened up like a little kid. Standing in a room with a christmas tree was his family. "MERRY CHRISTMAS CHRISTOPHER!!" everyone called out. Tears fell down his face as everyone hugged and kissed him. JD even put a Santa hat on Criss. "I can't believe this"Criss replied in shock. "You can thank Christine she's the one who thought of it" Dimi remarked.

"She must be with her mom"Criss said. Dimitra looked a little sad. "Her mom passed away last night right now she's helping out with a children's christmas in the ped's ward"she remarked. Down stairs in the cafertia I was pouring some apple juice and putting out some cookies on a platter. "I'll bring this up" one of the volunteers said and left. After the lady left I heard someone clear their throat. I turned around and saw Criss in the wheelchair with the Santa hat on. "Hey Criss I thought you'd be upstairs opening gifts with your family"I remarked smiling. "I wanted to see you first my mom told me your mom died last night" he said. "Yea she went quietly in her sleep" I replied trying to hold back the tears. "They also told me you were the one who suggested of bringing Christmas to the hospital for me". "I thought it would be nice since you're kind of like a big kid"I stated. Criss smiled. "Christine I got to say that this has got to be the best Christmas so far. I let Hammie meet his sister, I made a new friend who's got a big heart considering she's in a bit of pain right now"Criss stated.

"I feel weird saying this Criss but meeting you, your family, and your mom has made me feel happy this Christmas considering I wasn't in the mood for it this year" she remarked. "Well how about after I finish my Christmas upstairs my family helps out with the kid's Christmas". "Sure Santa Angel" I said as I gave Criss a kiss. After his family opened their gifts they came down and helped. JD even dressed like Santa Claus which made everyone laugh. As we passed out the gifts Criss asked where Sandy was. "She's not feeling well today Criss she had to have chemo early this morning" one of the nurses stated. "She's got cancer!" Criss remarked. "Luekemia she's been in and out of this hospital since she was five"the nurse stated. "That's got to be so tough on her family" Dimitra remarked coming over. "It is on her mother. She's a single parent she's so busy working three jobs that she doesn't have the time to see Sandy as much as she wants. She even had to work today" she replied.

"On Christmas that's so sad" Little D stateed. Criss saw a gift for Sandy and put it in his lap and took a stocking. "Excuse me" and wheeled off. In her room Sandy was looking at the window while she laid in bed holding her teddy. "Hey" a voice said. She looked and saw Criss wheeling in. "Hey Sandy remember me". She nodded. "I heard you weren't feeling up to being with the other kids so I thought I'd bring you a gift and a stocking" giving them to her. Her face lit up as she opened the gift. It was a coloring book. "And I think I saw some crayons in your stocking" as Criss handing them to her. As Criss talked to Sandy Dimitra and I just watched. "Christopher always had a way with kids" Dimitra stated. "Criss is making her day considering her mom couldn't be here"I replied. Then Criss made a flower appear out of nowhere which made Sandy giggle. Criss put the flower in her hair. "Well I'm going to let you get better and I'll see you later all right". "Bye" she remarked. Criss wheeled out with a smile on his face.

When it came time for Criss to leave the hospital he wanted to say good-bye to Sandy. When JD rolled him down to her room Sandy's mom was visiting. "Angel" Sandy called out when she saw Criss. "You must be the man my daughter keeps talking about" her mother stated. "You must her mom" shaking her hand. "I don't know what you've been doing but you've made my daughter so happy even thou she had to spend Christmas here"she replied. "She kind of did the same thing with me too. I also wanted to give you this" giving her an envelope. When she opened it tears started to fall down her face. "That will help you pay some bills and maybe you can quit one of your jobs so you can spend some time with your daughter" Criss stated. "I don't know what to say but I can't take this". "Please consider it my Christmas gift to you and Sandy. I have to go but I'll try to visit you Sandy" Criss remarked. "Bye Angel" she replied as JD wheeled Criss out.

When Criss got home Little Dimi was playing with Hammie. "Look who's home". Criss came in on crutchers. "Uncle Criss it's so good to see you" as Criss sat down. "Thanks Dimi where's mom and Costa?" he asked as Hammie jumped into his lap. "They're helping Christine pack up her mom's stuff at the home" Lynn stated. "I wonder what she's going to do now" JD asked. "She doesn't know" Lynn replied. At the home I was packing up some of my mom's pictures as Dimitra came back in. "Costa's almost done can I help you". "No just looking at some pictures of me and my mom when I was young" showing Dimitra. "You were a cute kid just as cute as Christopher was" she replied giving it back. "Well I should bring these home with me and Costa can take the boxes marked good will to the church or some where" I remarked wiping my tears away. Dimitra walked over to me and gave me a hug. For some reason while Dimitra hugged me I felt the same way I always did when my own mother gave me a hug. "Thanks for the help Dimitra".

"No problem come on" and we left. When I got home I checked my messages. Some hang ups, some people asking to vote for this person or that person but the last one I couldn't believe. When New Year Eve hit Lynn invited me over to watch the ball drop. At the house Criss was still on crutches but getting around pretty good. "Here we go" giving everyone popcorn. "So what time is the flight on Tuesday?" his mother asked. "Yea Dave wants to know so he can set up a meeting" JD stated. "That's what I wanted to talk about. I talked to the doctor yesterday and he sayes with the extent of the damaged tendons he doesn't want me to fly so I'm stuck here for another two weeks" Criss replied sitting down. "Felix isn't going to like this Criss"JD said. "If he doesn't like he can take it up with my doctor"Criss replied. "Thank god the repairs to the house is almost done" Dimitra said. "I kind liked having the family here"Lynn said. The door bell rang and Dimi got it. "Hey it's Christine"she stated. She opened the door and I came in with a stoller. "Hey guys look who I have". Criss turned and saw the baby. "How did you get a baby?"Dimitra inquired as Dimi took her coat.

"Well the lady at DDS called and informed me that the lady who attacked Criss and I she wouldn't stay on her medication as part of the deal of getting back her son so they took away her rights and the DDS is letting me adopt him"I replied with a huge smile on my face. "Congrates so what the kid's name?"Costa asked. "Joseph Christopher" I replied as Criss smiled. "Let me see Joseph" Dimitra inquired. I gave Dimitra the baby. "Also there's something I need to ask you and Christopher?" I asked. "What's that Christine?" Criss asked. "Well I would like it if you and your mom were Joseph's god parents and if something happens to me you'll watch over him for me"I asked. Criss got up and hobbled over to me. "I'd be delighted to be Joseph's godfather" and gave me a hug. "I would too and I'll watch over this child like I know you will"Dimitra added giving me a kiss. "Come on it's almost time" Costa remarked. We watched as the ball fell and I felt happy that it took two cats: a brother and sister to give me some great friends and a child to raise.
